Why Work with Us?

At Independent Living, Inc., we believe that lived experience matters. Whether you’ve worked in healthcare, supported family members, or just know the ins and outs of public benefits because you've had to figure them out yourself—your knowledge and empathy are valuable.

We strongly encourage individuals with disabilities and those from diverse backgrounds to apply.

Your Experience Matters

Are you the kind of person friends or family turn to for help navigating health insurance or government benefits? Do you have experience with Medicaid or Medicare—personally or professionally—and a passion for helping others understand their options? You may be a perfect fit for this role, even if you've never heard the term "Facilitated Enrollment Specialist" before.

This position is all about guiding people through the process of applying for Medicaid and Medicare services, especially those who may be unsure where to start or feel overwhelmed by the paperwork. You’ll become a trusted resource in the community, offering support, encouragement, and practical help at every step. We’re not just looking for degrees, we value life experience, empathy, clear communication, and a desire to make a difference. If you’re organized, a good listener, and passionate about helping people access the care they need, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

  • Help people enroll in Medicaid and Medicare. You’ll talk with individuals by phone, in-person, or virtually, and support them as they apply for health insurance benefits.
  • Follow up and make the process easier. From gathering documents to submitting paperwork, you’ll make sure each person gets the support they need from start to finish.
  • Be a reliable, informed guide. You’ll learn the rules and options available and clearly explain them so others can make informed decisions about their coverage.
  • Connect with the community. You’ll visit community events, agencies, and local organizations to share information about the program and build relationships.
  • Track your work. You’ll keep records of who you’ve helped, how, and when, so we can make sure we’re reaching the people who need us most.
  • Stay current and collaborate. You’ll attend regular trainings and meetings with colleagues across the state to stay informed and connected.

This Role Could Be a Great Fit If You

  • Have experience with Medicaid, Medicare, or other public benefits, whether through work, caregiving, advocacy, or personal use
  • Are patient, kind, and a good communicator, especially when helping people who may be stressed or unsure
  • Are comfortable using a computer (email, Microsoft Office, and web-based applications) and keeping track of tasks
  • Are organized and self-motivated being able to manage your own schedule and follow through on details
  • Are open to learning, you’ll need to complete a state-sponsored training to become a certified Facilitated Enrollment Specialist (if you’re not already certified, we’ll support you in getting there within your first 90 days of employment)
  • Have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, since some work happens in the community
