Job Description
Position Title: Temporary Clinical Lab Assistant
Employment Type: Temporary (4 months)
Reports To: Supervising Clinical Lab Veterinary Technician, ZHP
Schedule: 20 hours per week
Salary: $16.50/hour
Position Objective:
To assist Supervising Clinical Lab Veterinary Technician in all aspects of Clinical Lab functions.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Assist in set-up and clean-up of all sample processing tests, and laboratory procedures as directed.
- Assist with all aspects of sample submissions for both in-house and outside laboratories including sample aliquoting, labeling, submission paperwork, packaging, logging and shipping.
- Start-up and shut-down clinical laboratory including turning on and off diagnostic machines and following basic daily machine checks, slide staining and filing, daily freezer-bank temperature checks
- Update clinical lab reference materials as directed by supervisor including test procedures, sample requirements, labs and testing code lists, submission forms; as well as visual (hard copy) and digital (computer image) reference bank.
- Communicate directly with various reference labs for status of sample submissions, verification of testing sample requirements & sample storage, as well as turnaround times by both phone and email.
- Assist with sample freezer banking & logging, as well as inventorying and organizing of previously stored samples.
- Assist in inventory, stocking and unpacking clinical laboratory, freezer-bank, and shipping supplies.
- Clean, disinfect and maintain all spaces in clinical lab as directed.
- Implement and maintain infectious disease control procedures within clinical lab
- Perform related tasks and duties as required and/or assigned

Qualification Requirements
- Applicant must have successfully graduated from High School (or obtained a GED) and must have completed one year of college.
- Basic computer literacy required.
- Previous experience in laboratory or veterinary setting is preferred.
- Must have ability to communicate effectively in written and oral
- English and to function effectively in a complex healthcare setting.
