Looking for an opportunity to steward a growing firm’s technical expertise and market relevancy? Join ECT as our Vice President of Practices—a newly created leadership role designed to position and advance our technical capabilities and translate that expertise into business growth.

Within the extended leadership team, you will set the vision for technical excellence across the firm and lead a team of Practice Leaders responsible for mentorship, practice expertise, and support to ECT’s consulting staff and operational teams. Through partnership with the Vice President of Client Services and Vice President of Operations, you will ensure ECT continues to be recognized for both

innovation and technical excellence within its key markets.

In 2024, the firm authored a long-range strategic plan that provides the vision and the roadmap – you bring the experience, the energy, and the tenacity to help us achieve the future in a dynamic, employee-owned consulting practice.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Build, develop, and coach a high-performance team of Practice Leaders, each accountable for advancing their practice area and strengthening ECT’s technical leadership across diverse markets.
  • Serve as ECT’s “technical enabler,” ensuring the organization possesses the depth, expertise, and innovation capabilities required to achieve its ambitious goals.
  • Inspire and elevate technical professionals, fostering a culture of innovative thinking, continuous learning, and empowerment to drive growth and excellence strategies within each practice area.
  • Collaborate with Client Services and Operations to align operational capabilities, client delivery, and technical excellence, creating a unified approach to client success and business growth.
  • Demonstrate strong strategic thinking, technical vision, and change management skills, with a focus on scalable growth initiatives that reinforce ECT’s culture and market position.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with technical staff, senior leadership, cross- functional partners, and serving as a bridge between technical innovation and business objectives in both private and public sector environments.
  • Represent ECT in market, client, and industry settings, physical and virtual, as relevant, and helpful to brand position, talent acquisition, and lead generation.

 Position Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressive technical leadership experience, ideally within the Environmental or Engineering Consulting sector.
  • Outstanding technical communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to connect effectively with technical staff, senior leadership, cross-functional partners, and clients in both private and public sectors.
  • Demonstrated high integrity, a passion for innovation, and a commitment to building technical excellence that drives exceptional client outcomes and advances environmental progress for a more resilient future.
  • Recognized thought leadership in water or energy markets, with a proven ability to lead and coordinate technical specialists across multiple domains supporting ECT’s market leadership objectives.
  • Proven ability to translate technical expertise into a compelling brand presence, blending technical excellence into the company’s identity both internally and externally.
  • Desire and knowledge to use modern communication and technology platforms (CRM, social media, industry platforms, AI-assisted resources, etc.) to steward our technical and overall market and brand position.

Position Metrics

  • Practice Growth Goal: Achieve annual goals associated with identifying, developing, and growing key practice areas, existing and emerging.
  • Lead Generation: Work with Practice Leaders to develop and achieve a lead generation target as a measure of success regarding industry outreach and engagement efforts.
  • Technical Excellence Initiatives: Contribute to and achieve annual initiatives or goals associated with firm’s technical excellence, as well as the individual goals of each Practice Leader.
