Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor of Medical Records, the Medical Records Clerk is responsible for the organization, administration, and management of medical and departmental records
Position Functions and Responsibilities
- Understands and promotes Elizabeth Seton Children’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure application with organizational policies and procedures.
- Responsible for the preparation, maintenance, copying, filing, assembling and retrieving, logging and protection/security of patients’ medical charts
- Process and filing of all (new and existing) patient related records in medical charts
- Review records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulations on a timely and ongoing basis. Participate as an active member in the chart review committee
- Monitor the flow of patient’s charts for daily appointments as well as requests from other staff/departments.
- Establishes a system to secure confidentiality and tracking of charts when requested out of the medical charts room
- Enters data into the computer system as directed by supervisor
- Maintain equipment and order supplies as needed as approved by supervisor(s)
- Maintain established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
- Perform routine tasks related to the ESCR, Inc. program as deemed necessary by the supervisor, the Executive Director and/or ESCR, Inc. executive staff.
- Comply with established ESCR, Inc. policies and procedures re: quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control, confidentiality of patient information, customer service, attendance, punctuality, dress code, professional conduct, annual health assessments etc.
- Participate in all departmental in-services and staff development activities.
Education Requirements:
- HS Graduate (Associate Degree and/or 2 years of college preferred)
- Competent PC skills, including Word Processing, Excel spreadsheets (Microsoft office environment), strong Data Entry skills.
- Experience in Medical Billing/ Insurance practices and procedures
- Bilingual-Spanish Preferred
- Strong Customer Service, attention to detail and organizational skills required
Employee Requirements:
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.
- Must meet or exceed all general health standards and requirements for the position as established by employer in compliance with NYSDOH and other regulatory agencies if appropriate
- Must meet the general health requirements set fourth by the policies of this Center, which includes a medical and physical examination.
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of Thirty-Five (35) pounds.
- Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary.
Working Conditions:
- Will work in a well-lighted and ventilated area.
- Light lifting.
- Will be subject to frequent interruptions.
- May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
Hourly Rate:
$25.83/Hr.
