As a 2026 Summer Intern at Isthmus Engineering, you will engage in real-world engineering projects in our Roadway, Traffic, or Transit areas based on your interests and our project priorities. You will be paired with a Career Advocate who will help teach, mentor, and support you throughout your internship. Through weekly Intern Conversations you will learn from our experienced team members about our industry and the services that Isthmus offers.

The general responsibilities for the position of Civil Engineering Intern include:

  • Performing basic design and engineering calculations.
  • Organizing information for use in designs, drawings, or other documents.
  • Performing plan preparation using design software tools, such as CADD.
  • Supporting engineers in various tasks and duties.
  • Evidencing continued commitment to individual, company, and industry improvement.

Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

Required:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary Civil Engineering program or a closely related field and two years of program completion. 

Preferred:

  • Focus on Transportation or General Civil Engineering.
  • Completed Transportation Engineering course.
  • Registered with SciTechmn.org a plus.

Our ideal candidate will also demonstrate the following:

  • Interest in pursuing a career in transportation engineering.
  • Aptitude and desire to work with CADD.
  • Working knowledge of Excel and Word.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Positive team-focused attitude.

Isthmus welcomes candidates looking for a full-time, part-time (at least 20 hours per week), or customized work schedule.

Compensation and Benefits

  • The anticipated hourly rate for this position is $21.80-$24.00/hour. Compensation will be based upon experience, education, skill level, and other factors.

Stated benefits are for full-time positions. Part-time and temporary positions are eligible for limited benefits. Intern positions are considered temporary.

  • Relocation is not available for this position.
