In the role of Senior Accountant on the Digital Assets Team, you will be responsible for accounting related to cryptocurrency transactions and to play an active role in cross department initiatives that support our Crypto business activities to comprehend, track, reconcile, and analyze crypto financial data. Each day you will be faced with new challenges that will continuously leave you looking for ways to add value to the team and business units. This is a newly created role to ensure our accounting support model aligns with the growth of our Crypto business.  The candidate should have a combination of both traditional accounting expertise and an understanding of and expressed interest in cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. 

This role is based out of our Chicago office with an expectation to work in the office a portion of each week.  This role will be a member of a team focused on our digital asset businesses, including trading activities and digital asset investments.   

What You’ll Do: 

  • Maintain responsibility for the execution of the monthly accounting close for one or more crypto entities, including reconciling blockchain and API data, performing variance analyses, and posting journal entries to the General Ledger. 
  • Record and track crypto asset transactions, such as purchases, sales, loans, token deals, and transfers, ensuring accurate and complete financial reporting. 
  • Support the monthly profit & loss reporting process for crypto-related transactions, assisting with variance explanations and reconciliations. 
  • Ensure crypto-related balances are accurately and completely reflected on the balance sheet. 
  • Review transactional data and reporting for anomalies, providing proper documentation and clear explanations when required. 
  • Review contracts for financial obligations and unique terms and conditions relevant to accounting treatment 
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements or automation and build solutions to enhance efficiency and accuracy. 
  • Complete ad hoc projects assigned by managers and key stakeholders across Finance and other departments. 
  • Assist with external audits and prepare supporting schedules for tax returns related to crypto activities. 
  • Collaborate with internal teams—including tax, operations, and data teams—to ensure the accuracy of financial data and processes. 
  • Support controls and perform reconciliations for high-volume, complex crypto asset transactions and balances. 
  • Assist with accounting research and draft memos addressing evolving crypto transactions or new standards, as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned or needed.  

Skills You’ll Need: 

  • At least 4 years of experience in an accounting or similar finance role. 
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field; CPA (or equivalent) strongly preferred. 
  • Experience in trading industry accounting and/or crypto is a plus. 
  • Knowledge of blockchain technology and cryptocurrency transaction mechanics; experience using block explorers is preferred. 
  • Highly proficient in MS Excel, including working with pivot tables, lookup functions, and large data sets. 
  • Some familiarity with SQL and python is a plus, for coordinating with internal teams to build and troubleshoot internal tools 
  • Experience with NetSuite or similar accounting systems is a plus. 
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the initiative to define and resolve issues independently. 
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and skilled at producing clear documentation. 
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally. 
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize multiple assignments, and adapt in a fast-paced, evolving environment. 
  • Flexible and conscientious, with a professional demeanor and strong discretion when handling sensitive material.
