The Position:
Panasonic Avionics Corporation is seeking a customer focused, business intelligence & market individual contributor who will lead the product & services definition of end-user and connectivity cost & pricing for our Wi-Fi and mobile voice and data services (inflight internet access, inflight mobile phone service, etc.). These services are central to driving passenger satisfaction, increased adoption rates, and top line new business revenue for growth. The role will provide subject matter expertise to help shape Panasonic’s B2B network commercial models with our airline customers and support the development of detailed business plans for the in-flight connectivity business unit. May engage with 3rd party network service providers and external vendors alike. Understanding market willingness to pay is critical.
The role will be driven by a deep understanding of customer and market problems, along with an understanding of consumer and airline preferences across our global market portfolio. Working knowledge of Business Support Systems, Salesforce.com & other related tools, product catalog and pricing related experience is valued.
In this role, the candidate will develop a deep understanding of our cabin services portfolio, which includes our Content Gateway, (LiveTV), WISP (wireless internet service provider), our newly launched Connectivity Wi-Fi Portal, Wi-Fi roaming (802.1X and Hotspot 2.0), and mobile services (inflight cellular services). The role will leverage analytics & data (business intelligence), network management, systems integration and global market inputs to define pricing recommendations in conjunction with Panasonic’s connectivity business unit and account management (sales) teams. Deep engagement with IFC sales and account management is expected.
The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expertise in connectivity product and service pricing and offerability and will directly influence the ARPA (average revenue per aircraft) and ACPA (average cost per aircraft) development plans for existing GEO business in addition to our emerging multi orbit inflight connectivity offering.
It is also expected that the role will engage with business partners such as cellular network operators, network service providers, and airlines alike in the development of passenger value propositions that will further increase service adoption and take rates.
Product Line Management
- Develop end user LEO/GEO satellite network service pricing strategies for Panasonic’s airline customers that maximize service revenue and profitability.
- Develop new end-to-end business plans to deliver productivity, value-based pricing and new business capture.
- Assist the connectivity product management team in establishing pricing strategies to include business intelligence / market willingness to pay price for our connectivity service offerings.
- Work closely with finance and product management to define & manage costs associated with network services both internally and w/3rd party network service providers.
- Analyze and recommend pricing changes by working closely with the sales teams and IFC Business Unit Leaders.
- Assist and guide airline pricing and promotional activities.
- Track market and competitor trends regarding consumer and airline pricing.
- Develop service business plans and revenue forecasts in conjunction with finance and the connectivity business unit.
- Manage in-service plans and consumption calculations per airline, per tail, per month.
- Provide direction to the Wi-Fi roaming and account teams in their negotiations with airline and mobile network providers (roaming partners).
- Provide coaching and SME (subject matter expert) guidance to the Panasonic organization as it relates to product and service pricing strategies for B2B and B2B2C.
Communication and Leadership
- A team player in Connectivity product management, seeking alignment while being able to assert opinion and subject matter expertise.
- Will be able to take into consideration broader company goals and challenges when establishing pricing recommendations.
- Assure that plans are communicated, understood, and implemented internally throughout the company in the context of the overall portfolio.
- Identify, escalate, and resolve issues which may inhibit plan implementation and impact on the customer.
- Participate and present in select meetings with airline customers and other partners. Be a subject matter expert voice to the market in support of Panasonic’s sales and strategy.
- Provide subject matter expertise to marketing and sales training initiatives.
The salary or hourly wage range of $136,000 – $227,000 is just one component of Panasonic’s total package. The final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives.
What We’re Looking For:
- University degree, minimum 4 years, preferably with a Marketing, Product Management or Business qualification. Aviation / Aerospace focus preferred.
- 10+ years progressive experience in a Product Management or Marketing role, ideally in the aviation or telecom sector preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of Product Line Management experience; preferably in Satellite w/GEO/MEO or LEO or multi orbit related space networks preferred.
- 5+ years of experience working at (or with) an internet service provider or telecom preferred; Commercial Aviation / Aerospace satellite services experience highly desired.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, customers, and a diverse range of internal organizations via all methods of communication both formal and informal.
- Must have ability to take leadership in cross-functional team meetings.
- Ability to articulate product and pricing requirements from business use case to development team.
- Skilled in the use of pragmatic techniques to gather market insights, market problems, and define product requirements.
- Working knowledge of Profit and Loss statements; gross margin & EBITA/Pre-Tax Profit.
- Expert user of mainstream desktop applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Vision, and Project).
- Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
- Ability to lead as individual contributor to deliver results and accountability despite possibility for ambiguity.
- Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation.
- Delivers a wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
- Uses independent judgment to ensure projects/assignments are completed accurately and on-time and may be tasked with ensuring work of others is completed in a timely manner.
- Some domestic and international travel may be required.
