Position Overview:
The RN Charge Nurse at OrthoArkansas plays a vital leadership role in managing daily unit operations while ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care. This position serves as a mentor and clinical resource for staff, facilitates departmental efficiency, and promotes a collaborative, patient-centered environment. The RN Charge Nurse works closely with leadership and physicians to align clinical practices with organizational goals and values.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical and Staff Mentorship
Serve as a clinical and leadership mentor to new and existing staff.
Provide coaching and guidance to enhance clinical performance and professional growth.
Scheduling and Staffing Oversight
Assist in preparing and managing unit schedules in collaboration with leadership and scheduling teams.
Balance daily staffing plans to meet patient care needs and departmental goals.
Establish fair and efficient patient assignments for nursing staff.
Team Engagement and Feedback
Participate in peer interviews to help select new team members.
Offer constructive feedback to leadership on team performance and individual development.
Budget and Resource Management
Support budgetary goals by adhering to staffing plans and productivity targets.
Oversee supplies and materials to minimize waste and manage inventory efficiently.
Leadership and Communication
Act as a liaison between staff, leadership, and other departments to ensure clear communication.
Promote OrthoArkansas' mission, vision, and values through daily interactions.
Address and document staff performance concerns promptly and professionally.
Operational Throughput
Monitor and manage patient flow including admissions, discharges, and transfers.
Communicate and track the progress of diagnostic studies to support throughput goals.
Process Improvement
Identify and document opportunities for intra- and inter-departmental process improvement.
Facilitate changes that enhance care delivery and operational effectiveness.
Education and Compliance
Provide or coordinate education on topics such as patient safety, satisfaction, and regulatory updates.
Maintain knowledge of CMS, JCAHO, and other regulatory requirements and ensure departmental compliance.
Support adherence to policies, procedures, and patient rights.
Leadership Collaboration
Participate in surgery center leadership meetings and decisions.
Advocate for staff and departmental needs to maintain a high-performance culture.
Patient and Staff Satisfaction
Foster a team-oriented environment that emphasizes safety, efficiency, and a positive patient experience.
Additional Responsibilities
Perform other related duties as assigned to support clinical operations and team goals.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED required.
Specialized education and training in nursing.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in an operating room (OR) setting.
Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Current RN license in the state of Arkansas
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Skills & Abilities:
Mastery of EMR systems
Proficient in alphanumeric data entry, database management, and word processing
Strong leadership, communication, and mentorship skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable work environment
Software Skills:
Advanced: EMR
Intermediate: Database management
Basic: Word processing, typing
