About the Department
This is a Non-Civil Service position located with the Davidson County Sheriff's Office.
This position receives and dispatches calls with the appropriate codes, zones, and other data, enters various data into the computer system, and maintains security presence in assigned areas to protect property, related facilities and the occupants. Performs related duties as required.
Annual salary after 1 year of completion: $52,414

Position Duties
Dispatches and logs all radio transmissions. Answers various inquiries from the public. Enters appropriate data into the computer system. Controls the admittance of persons or vehicles at the Training Academy. Maintains security presence to ensure that areas are clear of obstructions and loiterers. Maintains security presence in order to prevent theft and vandalism. Maintains order in assigned public places as required. Maintains order and calls for police assistance as needed. Carries firearms and attends in-service training programs. Operates various security devices such as hand-held radios, handcuffs, chemical weapons. Calls for towing of vehicles improperly parked at or around facility. Monitors areas for suspicious activity. Makes security and safety checks as needed. Monitors security cameras as needed. May provide escort to visitors or employees to unlit areas of the property. Responds to emergencies. Prepares appropriate incident reports when necessary. Maintains accurate records. May perform special security functions that require an armed security presence. Performs other services required for public safety and customer service.
The work environment involves risks with some exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stresses, which require a range of safety and other precautions. This position is required to carry a firearm.
Employees must be able to respond quickly to an emergency, defend themselves or others against physical attack, properly apply restraints, use a firearm with accuracy, and pull a person out of danger during an emergency. Employees are frequently required to stand, walk, and key information into a computer. Employees may be required to work varying shifts and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 21 years old.
Pass a medical exam by a licensed professional.
Pass a psychological test by a licensed professional.
If prior military, must have Honorable discharge. A copy of the long form DD214 should be submitted to HR prior to interview.
Must satisfy agency firearms qualification during DCSO firearms training.
**For NCIC access, criminal background check must meet TBI approval. You must also submit the following documents:
a. Provide proof of citizenship (Example: birth certificate or naturalization papers)
b. Provide proof of education
LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid "Class D" Driver's License and completion of Defensive Driving course is required in this classification.
Must successfully complete Armed Officer training and receive weapons certification.
Must complete and pass forty (40) hour armed officer in-service training class annually.
Must qualify with your weapon twice a year.
Must receive NCIC certification within 90 days of service.
