About the Role


We are seeking a Glassware / Stockroom Assistant Supervisor to assist in overseeing the glassware wash, inspection, and sterilization process, stockroom operations, and facility laundry services for the laboratory animal care program for our public health federal customer. 


This position involves ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, maintaining quality control standards, and assisting in supervising staff.


This is an entirely onsite position at our customer's location in Atlanta, Georgia. This position is contingent on contract award. 


Responsibilities

  • Assist the Glassware Supervisor in supervision of staff performing glassware wash, inspection, and sterilization process, stockroom operations, and facility laundry services.
  • Wash, inspect and sterilize laboratory glassware received from laboratory staff before inventorying it for distribution.
  • Remove and dispose of decontaminated lab waste from discard pans, separate reusable glassware and wash all reusable laboratory glassware and discard pans.
  • Sort all soiled glassware received from laboratory staff located on customer facilities according to required cleaning protocols, and sort reusable glassware according to type and size to be washed for reuse.
  • Place items requiring pre-cleaning (soaking) in an alkaline solution before washing in mechanical glassware washer.
  • Conduct glassware inspection processes. Rewash glassware if a visual inspection reveals that the item is visibly dirty, clouded, cracked or stained. Test glassware for residual soap.
  • Sterilize laboratory supplies (autoclave, heat pack, or Ethylene Oxide sterilizers).
  • Assemble items with customer stock numbers according to standard instructions provided by customer laboratory staff.
  • Manage the inventory for customer’s laboratory supplies (disposable and reusable) that are purchased by the customer for distribution to various laboratories.
  • Ensure scheduled assignments and tasks are completed as directed by lab project management.
  • Verify the accuracy of orders received, including the quantity and correctness of supplies received from vendors that were ordered by customer staff.
  • Place new disposable and clean reusable supplies in designated locations inside stockroom and other storage sites.
  • Keep stockroom clean and secure. Perform general cleaning practices.
  • Fill orders received from customer laboratory staff through Scireson Electronic Ordering System.
  • Pull items from the inventory and packaging inside boxes.
  • Label boxes containing orders.
  • Follow up with requesters when orders are not picked up in a timely manner.
  • Transfer and distribute equipment or supplies to designated branch as requested.
  • Act as the main driver for deliveries between facilities.
  • Wash and inspect discards pan and lids.
  • Make special prep items.
  • Inspect glassware and conduct residual detergent testing.
  • Participate in an annual inventory (count) of laboratory supplies that are stored in the stockroom. Perform a spot inventory of at least 10% of supplies stored in the stockroom each quarter. The spot inventory shall be performed on a different set of supplies each quarter.
  • Perform facility laundry services for laboratory staff’s scrubs, coveralls and towels. Wash, dry and fold garments used at customer’s facilities.
  • Perform all duties in adherence with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Assist with training and mentoring staff on SOPs. Ensure all company and client policies and SOPs are followed by the staff and suggest modifications to program management as needed.
  • Participate in interviews and selection of husbandry personnel, as needed.
  • Keep detailed records and documentation of activities and services provided.
  • Perform QC checks as required. 
  • Provide information as needed to maintain adequate supply inventories.
  • Report any abnormal conditions of the facility or immediate vicinity to management.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator if required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements


Required Experience and Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of experience conducting glassware, inspection, sterilization, stockroom, laundry, inventory or closely related duties required. 
  • Experience in a scientific or research laboratory setting highly desired.
  • Must be able to maintain written and computer-based logs and documentation.
  • Supervisory experience highly desired.
  • Working knowledge of all levels of biohazard containment highly desired.
  • Be able to don and doff the required Personal Protective Equipment. 
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and standard procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Ability to identify and address issues and deficiencies and implement effective solutions according to guidelines.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and ensure standard policies and practices are followed.
  • Ability to obtain government clearance.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clear and satisfactory driving record.
  • Will be required to work with, take specific precautions against, and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.

Education and Training

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 55 pounds (25 kilograms) frequently. 
  • Strength and agility to capture, restrain, and carry medium-sized mammals without causing harm to the animal or self.
  • Must have no known allergies to animals, feed, or chemicals.
  • Walking, reaching, bending, and stooping.
  • May be exposed to Hazardous materials and will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to protect against exposure to pathogens and chemicals.
  • Ability to obtain necessary immunizations against vaccine-preventable diseases relevant to laboratory placement, including Hepatitis B, among others.
  • Ability to obtain respiratory clearance and fit testing may be required.
  • Must be able to work with hazardous chemicals and potentially infectious biological agents.
