Job Description

Sport Scientist-Research Coordinator

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Sport Scientist-Research Coordinator to join our research team on an NBA-funded grant. This exciting position centers around performance research involving BYU's Division I men's and women's basketball teams. This role is a hands-on opportunity to be involved in both high-level athletics and real-world sports science, collecting meaningful data using tools such as MRI, ultrasound, and force plates. As the Sport Scientist-Research Coordinator, you'll be instrumental in advancing knowledge on lower-body injuries in collegiate basketball players. This role also supports BYU's mission to blend world-class research with meaningful mentoring opportunities for students. 

 

What you’ll do in this position:

  • Ensure Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols are up to date and strictly followed throughout the study. 
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations to ensure the confidentiality and protection of participant data. 
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students involved in the research; provide training in data collection procedures. 
  • Report to and coordinate with the study site Principal Investigator. 
  • Prepare reports and share approved data with the University of Wisconsin and other study related entities 
  • Manage participant enrollment by coordinating athlete sign-ups and study onboarding. 
  • Communicate and coordinate closely with coaching staff to align data collection with practice and competition schedules. 
  • Operate the MRI scanner to collect muscle volume data; ensure safety and data quality during scans. 
  • Perform ultrasound assessments of muscle and tendon structure with student assistance. 
  • Collect and analyze strength and jump performance data using VALD force plates. 
  • Track athlete exposures to training and competition using Kinexon. 
  • Maintain a comprehensive and organized record of all lower body injuries sustained by study participants. 

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU. 
  • Masters Degree or higher in Exercise Science or related field.
  • Experience performing musculoskeletal imaging experience with MRI and ultrasound. 

Preferred

  • Two years experience with research coordination.

Typical Starting Pay: $59,000.00 to $73,500.00
