Job Description:

Summary:


The Content Assistant is a student employee that will provide support to the 1A production team, with a focus on listener engagement, while learning about the ins and outs of producing a daily show.

WAMU 88.5 is a public media station owned and operated by American University. WAMU is the source for local, regional and NPR news and original programs in Washington DC. Since 1961, WAMU has been amplifying voices and sharing stories from the many neighborhoods and communities in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in triaging and responding to listener inquiries received from the [email protected] email, which will include online story searches and light tech support, and will help craft responses for more nuanced messages as necessary.

  • Look for meaningful listener contributions in the form of voice memos and emails to use on-air, working alongside producers to bring that critical engagement into 1A’s shows.

  • Have the opportunity to learn about booking guests and writing questions for hosts, and to pitch stories alongside producers.

  • Help prepare the studio for air time, and will escort guests in for the live show.

  • Provide other administrative support, including opening and categorizing books the show receives, and preparing swag packages for the 1A news quiz winners.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-Time.

  • 20 hours per week.

  • Student.

Salary Range:

  • $17.95 per hour.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Must have an interest in or experience in media and customer service.

  • Must have good office-level communication skills.
