Job Status: Part-Time, 18-24 hours per week 

Availability: Sunday through Saturday, 8am-10pm 

Requirements: Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Bachelor of Arts (BA), or equivalent knowledge; Master of Fine Arts (MFA) a plus

Position Summary  

The Technician and Program Assistant (TPA) is a cross-functional role that supports daily studio operations, educational programming, and community engagement at Greenwich House Pottery. The TPA is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and well-equipped studio environment, assisting students and faculty, supporting administrative processes, and promoting a welcoming atmosphere for all studio users. 

TPAs are cross-trained to handle both technician - and administrative tasks and are assigned shifts accordingly. Staff in the West Village location work dedicated shifts (either as technician or liaison), while Chelsea staff perform an integrated set of duties each shift. 

Key Responsibilities

Studio Operations & Technical Support

  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of studio classrooms and shared spaces
  • Prepare and replenish clay, glazes, slips, and kiln materials
  • Load, unload, and monitor kilns; document firings and report malfunctions
  • Receive deliveries and restock studio materials and tools
  • Perform or assist with basic equipment maintenance and minor repairs
  • Support studio and classroom setup and breakdown
  • Assist Operations Manager and/or Studio and Program Coordinator with specialized repairs and facility maintenance

Administrative & Program Support

  • Welcome and assist students, faculty, and visitors at the front desk
  • Answer phone and email inquiries and provide general program information
  • Process registrations, payments, and tool sales via POS systems (Shopify and Stripe)
  • Maintain accurate signage, rosters, and studio announcements
  • Support weekly faculty communications and student outreach as directed
  • Assist with opening/closing duties and track attendance or supply needs 

Community Engagement & Learning Environment

  • Serve as a helpful, knowledgeable point of contact for faculty and students
  • Support a respectful, inclusive, and creative learning environment
  • Offer studio tours and orient new students as needed
  • Assist in-studio events and exhibitions, including artwork pick-up and gallery-related logistics
  • Capture photos and short videos of daily studio activity for use in organic social media content, in collaboration with the Studio and Program Coordinator
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Bachelor of Arts (BA), or equivalent knowledge; Master of Fine Arts (MFA) a plus 
  • Minimum two years of experience in a ceramics studio, arts organization, or educational setting
  • A self-starter who works well without close supervision and can establish priorities when presented with multiple tasks.  
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Comfortable with physical tasks and working around kilns, clay, and studio materials
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and adapt to changing studio needs
  • Commitment to inclusivity and service in a community arts environment
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms and comfort capturing informal photo and video content for internal or promotional use is a plus
