Position Summary:

The Analytical Chemist creates and directs testing methods in support of product development and quality, providing broad support for material identification using methods and instrumentation to meet business needs while working with project leaders and product development engineers and product teams to analyze product quality and composition. This position is supervisory with direct reports but will also assist and train others through coordination and collaboration during technical projects.

Responsibilities:

Support Analytical Testing

  • Understand and work with a wide range of Analytical instruments and equipment
  • Develop and validate new testing methods
  • Reverse engineer materials or formulations, including researching and identifying chemical composition of products or materials
  • Perform hands on laboratory testing as necessary
  • Generate and interpret business relevant conclusions from test data, including statistical data analysis to support conclusions derived from testing
  • Document and communicate results using both technical writing and oral presentations, sharing information with leadership, product development teams, and quality assurance departments
  • Build and maintain project and experiment timelines to meet business needs

Laboratory Support

  • Provide expertise and support to select, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Coordinate with subcontracted/external labs as necessary for testing support services
  • Manage and support Analytical submissions maintaining timely and appropriate turnaround times
  • Maintain cost effective test capabilities by leveraging internal and external resources
  • Provide technical oversight of Analytical laboratory and ensure cost, efficiency, and quality of test results
  • Support chemical laboratory safety for R&D function

Department & Individual Improvements

  • Participates in department continuous improvement activities
  • Serves as an ad-hoc team member as required
  • Understands basic principles of products and/or devices in assigned area
  • Trains and instructs others to perform routine experiments and routine and non-routine tasks
  • Creates training documentation
  • Provides leadership for others within project work
  • May also perform additional duties as assigned
What we are looking for:
  • Supervisory experience within a team setting (delegating, people leader)
  • 2-3 years of analytical instrumentation experience within an industrial, consumer products or equivalent work experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or closely related discipline
  • 2-3 years of broad knowledge of chemistry, including wet chemistry techniques
  • Knowledge of general laboratory safety practices, standards, and regulations
  • Exposure to health risks or conditions that may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (including a respirator)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

 

What we prefer

  • Master’s degree in chemistry
  • 10+ years in depth relevant laboratory experience
  • Experience in the consumer products industry
  • 2-years supervisory experience within a team setting with direct reports

Total Rewards Package:The salary range for this position is USD $66,000.00/Yr. - USD $81,800.00/Yr.


Actual base salary offered to a candidate may vary based upon factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.
