About the Role: 

Reporting to the Director, Communications, the Internal Communications Manager is responsible for developing and executing internal communication strategies that support institutional priorities, enhance employee engagement, and promote organizational culture. The position oversees internal communication platforms, content creation, and engagement initiatives, ensuring alignment with Brock’s brand and values. 

Acting as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and campus partners, the Internal Communications Manager provides expert guidance on messaging, change communications, and employee engagement. The position supports crisis communication efforts, facilitates two-way dialogue across the university, and contributes to broader strategic planning and budget processes.  

The Internal Communications Manager will:  

  • Develop and lead a strategic internal communications framework aligned with Brock’s institutional goals, fostering transparency, engagement, and alignment across the university; 
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and departments to support change management, strategic initiatives, and employee engagement through effective internal messaging; 
  • Design and implement internal communication platforms to centralize and enhance information sharing; 
  • Champion inclusive and accessible communication practices, promoting awareness and adoption of internal protocols throughout the university community; 
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of internal communications using analytics, feedback, and engagement metrics to inform future strategies; 
  • Participate in strategic planning processes and contribute to the department’s annual budget planning, providing input on internal communications needs, tools and resource allocation; 
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leaders, departments, and campus partners on internal messaging, communication planning, and best practices; 
  • Support internal crisis and change communications with clarity, empathy, and consistency, ensuring timely and coordinated messaging; 
  • Represent University Marketing and Communications on committees and at events, advocating for departmental objectives and fostering cross-functional collaboration. 

Please note this position may occasionally require attendance at events and meetings outside of regular business hours including evenings and weekends to support operational needs. 

Key Skills and Experience: 

  • Undergraduate degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience; 
  • A valid G class driver’s license and an acceptable driver’s abstract; 
  • Experience in internal communications in a higher education or public sector environment; 
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills; 
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities; 
  • Experience with digital communication tools (e.g., intranet platforms, email marketing software, CMS); 
  • Ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams, building and fostering strong relationships; 
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and inclusive communication practices; 
  • Promotes and embodies inclusivity and respect within the workplace and the broader community; 
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to assess and provide strategic insights; 
  • Strong presentation and reporting skills, capable of articulating ideas clearly and persuasively; 
  • Diplomatic and tactful approach in all interactions while maintaining professionalism; 
  • Skilled at understanding audience perceptions and tailoring messages to ensure clarity and effectiveness. 

Salary and Total Rewards:  

  • Job Grade M, Salary Scale ($73,245-$118,776); 
  • Target Hiring Range: $73,245-$80,000;  

This is a permanent position that includes:   

  • Health & Dental Benefits: Comprehensive extended health, dental, and vision coverage. 
  • Pension Plan: Enrollment eligibility in the Brock University Pension Plan. 
  • Vacation: Up to 3 weeks per year, in addition to university holidays. 
  • Professional Development: Eligibility for the Brock Tuition Waiver Program. 

*The final salary is based on experience, internal equity, and budget considerations within the target hiring range.
