Position Overview


The Senior Director of Learning Products oversees the development and implementation of STEM learning products and services and ensures that they meet the needs of learners from low-income and historically marginalized communities. This role manages full time product owners as well as a database analyst and online community facilitator. In addition, the role manages contractors and coordinates a cross-functional team to build products and services aligned to STEM learning. The role works closely with leads from R&D and partnership success to ensure products are continually improving and responsive to learner needs. The role develops strategic recommendations and product roadmaps to align with the STEM Product vision. This exempt role reports to the Vice President of Programs.


Responsibilities 

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Define and drive the vision and roadmap for The Tech’s learning product portfolio
    • Partner with leaders and stakeholders to align learning solutions with organizational goals
    • Monitor industry trends (AI, adaptive learning, gamification, social learning, etc.), emerging technologies, and best practices in learning and edtech
  • Product Development and Innovation
    • Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of learning products from ideation and design through development, launch, and continuous improvement
    • Incorporate evidence-based instructional design, adult learning principles, and user experience best practices into all solutions
    • Champion data-driven decisions by setting metrics for learning effectiveness, engagement, and return on investment
  • Team Leadership and Collaboration
    • Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team of learning product managers providing direction, feedback, and conflict resolution
    • Foster a culture of creativity and collaboration
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with design, marketing, and partnerships to ensure successful product delivery and adoption 
    • Support internal professional learning efforts aligned with best practices in adult learning theory
  • Operational Excellence
    • Oversee budgets, contracts, timelines, and resources for the learning product portfolio
    • Establish scalable processes and development, deployment, and evaluation of learning solutions
    • Ensure compliance with accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusion standards


Requirements and Skills 

  • 10+ years of experience in learning design, instructional technology, product management, or a related field
  • Proven track record leading the development of successful learning products or programs
  • Strong knowledge of learning science, adult learning theory, and modern instructional design approaches
  • Understanding of how to apply product management methodologies (Agile, etc.) to learning initiatives
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience with learning technologies (LMS, authoring tools, AI-driven solutions)
  • Advanced degree in Education, Learning Sciences, Instructional Design, or related experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to resolve conflict.
  • Ability to communicate orally or in writing to diverse audiences, including learners of all ages and backgrounds, Board members, staff, volunteers, sponsors, etc., about the organization’s mission.


Working Conditions and Schedule

  • Schedule includes weekend and evening work as programmatic and organizational business needs require.
  • This is an on-site role with the possibility of flexibility for working some days at an alternative work location. Flexibility will vary depending on the needs of the job.
  • International and domestic travel up to 15%.
