Are you an operational Manager with a passion for Safety, Security, Health, and Environment and excited about the opportunity to lead the Safety program at one of Unilever’s iconic Manufacturing sites?

main job purpose

The Site HSSE Manager has overall responsibility for managing Health Safety, Security and Environmental governance, and compliance activities to demonstrate excellence within a complex manufacturing environment. They will work with site Supply Chain teams to develop the local OSHE Strategy and improvement plans to achieve sustainable excellence by reducing incidents, injuries, illnesses, and the environmental impact as measured in the Key Performance Indicators. The HSSE Manager is required to proactively and effectively manage the relationship with the HSE and the Environment Agency, and the management of the Site’s COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards) Regulations.

key accountabilities

  • Deploy the Global/Cluster HSSE strategy, policy, and standards in the site to achieve best-in-class Health Safety, Security and Environmental performance.

  • Develop and lead the execution of the Site OSHE masterplan to deliver a reduction in incidents, compliance with all internal and external audit requirements and a best-in-class safety culture.

  • Lead and develop the Site SHE team.

  • Drive governance of the Safety and Environment Pillar to meet UMS Foundation Audit requirements and plan for Advanced UMS capabilities.

  • Steer and govern the Site Safety Subcommittees.

  • Monitor site legal compliance and ensure the site meets all local/national regulatory requirements and Unilever standards, provide advice on national legislation requirements & implement relevant procedures and policies.

  • Develop and implement the security management programme, coordinate capital investment for security expenditure and liaise with government bodies for regulatory security matters.

  • Govern and improve Site Safety training program for all employees.

  • Lead and develop the Site Technical Services team to ensure safety, quality, reliability, and cost efficiency are maintained across site infrastructure, facilities, and utilities.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS

Essential: 

  • Health & Safety Degree or similar technical discipline

  • NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management (or working towards)

  • Proven leadership and management experience gained through working with high-performing teams in a manufacturing or industrial site.

Desirable:

  • Multi skilled background (mechanical, electrical/software)

  • Chemical manufacturing or similar high-hazard process industry experience

  • Fast Moving Consumer Goods manufacturing experience within a factory or site

  • Over 5 years’ experience of managing safety, health and environment within a complex, multi-site manufacturing environment

  • Working knowledge of the control of major accident hazards (COMAH Regulations / Seveso III Directive)

  • IEMA Practitioner Certificate

  • CQI IRCA ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 Lead Auditor

  • Project Management Qualification

  • Security Management Qualification (could be included as part of a training plan)

  • Working experience within security management for physical and cyber security and effective implementation of security management processes and procedures

TRAVEL

Ad hoc travel, as per job requirements, including third party visits, external meetings or to other Unilever factories, Distribution Centres and sites to share best practices.
