Job Summary:

The UX Researcher will work within the Design department alongside the Industrial Design team to apply UX and human factors research methods to develop a deep understanding of the user mental model and work cycles, develop actionable insights, and develop or refine tools that will be shared with designers, engineers, and UX Practitioners. This role goes beyond Digital UX and supports the user from a whole machine perspective, including, but not limited to, applied tasks, controls, ergonomics, visibility, and creature comforts.

This role works within the strategic research process and collaborates closely with cross-functional counterparts to influence decisions for physical aspects of designing for operators of heavy equipment.
 

What You Will Do:

  • Design and conduct strategic UX research projects.

  • Perform in-depth task-analysis for physical applications.

  • Update shared resources with new insights, tools, and learning materials.

  • Organize and synthesize data for UX and HMI research projects.

What You Will Have:

Creativity: Knowledge of the approaches, tools, and techniques for promoting creative, original thinking and ability to apply it to a variety of business situations.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
Computer Software Industry: Knowledge of computer software industry; ability to understand future products, vendors, technologies, issues, and trends and directions.
Human-Centered Design (HCD): Knowledge of Human-Centered Design model, principle, and concepts; ability to understand the perspective of people who experience a problem, their needs, and provide them with a solution which truly meets their needs effectively.
User Experience (UX) Research: Knowledge of methods, tools and technologies used in UX research; ability to collect and analyze data regarding user behaviors, needs, and attitudes in order to guide product development.
User Experience Design: Knowledge of user experience design tools, techniques and approaches; ability to design applications that are valued, positively perceived and used by clients.
Web Trends & Directions: Knowledge of web trends; ability to utilize a variety of web information and technical tools to apply web developing trends within the organizational infrastructure.
 

Considerations For Top Candidates:

  • Degree, certification, or related experience in one of the following areas: human factors, industrial design, human centered design, ergonomics, or psychology

  • Experience in one or more of the following: task analysis, journey mapping, card sorting, field research, ergonomic studies, competitive research, Lean Innovation

  • Familiarity with aerospace, automotive, industrial, medical, or similar design or research spaces

Summary Pay Range:

$95,640.00 - $143,520.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
