ROLE DEFINITION:

Provides technical expertise to design and optimize production, ensuring high quality and cost-effectiveness while maintaining safety and environmental compliance. This role is a subject matter expert in Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), responsible for process development and continuous improvement.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Design, develop, and implement new EDM manufacturing processes to optimize efficiency and quality.
  • Lead process enhancements and modifications to complex manufacturing equipment, focusing on EDM tooling and consumables.
  • Monitor equipment reliability and conduct root cause analysis for process failures.
  • Provide technical support and training to production operators and serve as the subject matter expert for all EDM-related activities.
  • Lead projects for new product introductions and process improvements, collaborating with cross-functional teams.

WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:

Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical background with a minimum of 5 years of experience specializing in EDM process development.

Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Ability to analyze complex situations and make informed, productive decisions.

Manufacturing Equipment: Knowledge of manufacturing equipment, with a focus on hardened part manufacturing like grinding, polishing, EDM, and honing. This includes the ability to perform maintenance, specify and acquire new equipment, and develop preventative maintenance plans.

Manufacturing Processes: Expertise in existing manufacturing methods, technologies, and processes. The ability to execute, plan, and monitor the full manufacturing process and document Standard Operating Procedures.

Manufacturing Safety: Knowledge of manufacturing safety and the ability to identify and address work-related hazards to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Problem Management Process – MFG: Ability to use a disciplined approach to problem resolution, including trend and root cause analysis.

TOP CANDIDATES MAY ALSO HAVE:

  • Expertise in EDM programming and proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam, Esprit).
  • Strong knowledge of various materials, including tool steels and superalloys.
  • Experience with Six Sigma methodologies.

  • This position requires the selected candidate to work on-site five days a week in the Pontiac, IL facility.

Summary Pay Range:

$95,640.00 - $143,520.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
