Description
This individual is responsible for all activities associated with running the Bobst Flat Bed Die Cutter including set up, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements to operations. As lead operator, this individual is responsible for the leadership of safe, quality, high performance production requirements and expectations of the machine and crew.
Duties and Responsibilities (essential functions)
- Must demonstrate initiative in leading the crew; assist in training to help develop each member of the crew into a future operator
- Assist supervisor in ensuring that crew members understand their job descriptions and perform their work accordingly
- Safely lead the set-up of the machine with the assistance of the entire crew
- Set-up machine to run all new items; ensure Production Supervisor signs off on all new items and items for customers on alert before completing the run
- Ensure Quality department signs off on all new items and items for customers on alert before completing the run
- Must monitor performance in relation to established goals; ensure the crew remains focused on meeting goals
- Inspect all dies before and after run to ensure that any necessary repairs are made before the next run
- Must ensure accurate reporting in the computer system on all jobs
- Provide feedback to supervisors on crew development and productivity
- Perform preventative maintenance of the machinery and communicate any issues to supervisor or maintenance
- Review all information on factory tickets and print cards for accuracy; sign off on accuracy of every order
- Follow first piece inspection process to ensure that production meets customer specifications
- Monitor quality throughout the production run by making up and inspecting at least one box per unit
- Troubleshoot quality and production issues
- Report safety, quality, and equipment issues to supervisor
- Ensure good housekeeping in machine area and in surrounding areas on the production floor
- Maintain positive and productive communications with all relationships
- Must follow all company policies and procedures
- Must be trained on Box-Board Products, Inc. Employee Practices for AIB Compliance (a.k.a. Good Manufacturing Practices or G.M.P.’s); must follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (G.M.P.’s)

3.1 Raw or Finished Materials
- Corrugated board and cutting die attachments
3.2 Tools and Machines Used
- Tape measure, utility knife, hand tools, air hose, tape, micrometer, computer, calculator, gloves, PPE
3.3 Hazards
- Moving mechanical parts; wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; vibration; loud noise; dust
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to understand and read measurements using a tape measure; use and understand all other measuring tools
- At least 2 years of experience in the corrugated or packaging industry preferred
- Must be able to read and understand English instructions on company production orders
- Must be able to communicate with all crew members and supervisors
- Experience in the operation of a Platen Die Cutter or equivalent training on a similar machine including set-ups, change-overs, and preventative maintenance preferred
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; and/or vibration. The noise level is the work environment is usually loud.
