Whirlpool is currently seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Manager, Strategy & Business Development (M&A Focus), located at our World of Whirlpool office in downtown Chicago, IL, or at our Lakeview Campus in Benton Harbor, Michigan.
The candidate selected for this position will be an experienced M&A/Strategy professional who enjoys the challenge and intensity of those fields, yet stays calm, keeps oversight in the midst of the deal, and is resilient in challenging or ambiguous situations. This person will also need to be a self-motivated, high-energy individual who can easily function in a high-demand, performance-driven environment. He/she must be accustomed to working on multiple tasks in parallel. This professional must demonstrate strong leadership skills, best demonstrated by the individual's ability to gain credibility with team members and senior management.
The Corporate Strategy team is aligned with the C-suite at Whirlpool and drives initiatives in the following major areas: Mergers & Acquisitions, Portfolio Management, Strategic Planning, Competitive Intelligence, and Strategic Initiatives. The selected candidate will play a leading role in the assessment and execution of specific acquisition, joint venture, alliance and divestiture opportunities on a global basis by (i) analyzing together with senior colleagues (Head of M&A, EVP of Corporate Strategy), the competitive landscape for potential deals and (ii) contributing to the entire M&A process from outreach to business case development, Board review, negotiation strategy, diligence, integration/separation activities, and deal closing. #LI-DD1
Your responsibilities will include
Problem Solving and Analytical Skills: Use strong judgment, problem solving and analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative. Scope and plan any and all financial and quantitative analyses that will yield critical answers to M&A questions. Understand the required data sets to complete the analysis and procure them accordingly. Independently manage the delivery of timely, well triangulated analyses, and serve as a "Player/Coach" in this role.
Critical Communication Development & Business Reporting: Communicate effectively, both verbally and on paper, at the most senior levels of the organization. Create and oversee the development of major M&A presentations for senior executives. Mastery of valuation spreadsheets, and competency in Google Slides to create impactful, concise communication material. Showcase ability to accept direct feedback, and thrive in a steep learning curve environment.
Financial Modeling: Independently build - from scratch - complex financial and valuation models, communicate strategic implications to senior colleagues, and recommend various solutions as needed. Demonstrate mastery of all relevant valuation techniques including, but not limited to, discounted cash flows, public comparables, precedent M&A, leveraged buyouts, and sum-of-the-parts. Easily troubleshoot and enhance models under time pressure, and provide direct guidance to junior team mates.
Team Management: Build relationships with senior leaders and executives across regions and functions, to jointly progress M&A projects. Guide, mentor and develop junior team members (Snr Analyst). Effectively manage the day-to-day activities of cross-regional and cross-functional teams in a PMO capacity. In addition, manage relationships with 3rd party advisors, where appropriate.
Minimum requirements
Bachelor’s Degree
4+ years of experience in a corporate M&A, Strategy, and Business Development team environment or advisory role in a consulting firm/investment bank
2+ years of experience in leading/managing M&A projects and leadership reporting
Preferred skills and experiences
MBA from a reputable institution
Track record of ability to deliver superior results under pressure and time constraints
Comfortable with ambiguity and change, and willing to adapt to unpredictable hours
Team-oriented, recognize the accomplishments of others before the individual
Communicate in an open and honest way that quickly builds trust and respect
Proficiency in reading financial statements and building financial / valuation models
Comfortable on his/her feet, making presentations to Senior Leaders and Executives
Builds consensus, simplifies the complex, and develops clear communication and presentation materials to a variety of audiences
Possess a combination of out-of-the-box thinking and the ability to question the status quo / generally accepted beliefs
Experience of working in global, matrix organizations
