About the Department
Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine strenuous skilled or semi-skilled work to maintain community Parks and Recreation buildings and grounds.
Position Duties
Experience equivalent to six months full time general grounds maintenance or closely related work. Must possess a valid Arizona Driver License and be able to meet the Community’s insurance carrier requirements. Must complete and pass a background check.
Minimum Qualifications
- Beautifies park grounds by keeping lawns green and litter free.
- Establishes and maintains positive and effective working relationships with other staff and the public.
- Mows grass, trims plants/shrubs, and prunes bushes/trees, including operating equipment such as riding lawn mowers, tractor gang mowers, weed-eaters, chain saws, and trucks.
- Performs minor maintenance/repairs to equipment;
- Performs a variety of strenuous manual labor associated with the maintenance and upkeep of athletic fields, parks and the Recreation building including picking up/hauling trash, debris, and other waste.
- Maintains community pool.
- Assists at special events, including setting up, cleaning, etc.
- Serves as Park Rangers as needed (enforce park rules and regulations)
- Attends training as needed.
- Removes graffiti from parks and recreational facility area.
- Performs other duties as assigned to include cross training.
Other Qualifications
- Knowledge of the practices and techniques of landscape/grounds maintenance.
- Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of landscape/grounds maintenance equipment.
- Knowledge of general groundskeeping and landscaping principles and practices.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other staff and the public.
- Skill in operating a variety of landscape/grounds maintenance equipment.
- Skill in understanding and following written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for one to three continuous hours per day while performing a variety of manual labor such as raking leaves/debris, shoveling infield mix, gravel, or dirt etc.
- Must be willing to work some weekends, evenings, holidays and all department sponsored events on an as needed basis.
