We have a vacancy for a Senior Scientist to join the Bioassay team at our Cambridge (UK) site. In this primarily lab-based role you will be working as part of the immunology group on client-facing projects, and will have the opportunity to learn new techniques in a fast-paced but supportive environment.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate deep knowledge of immunology with an emphasis on in vitro PBMC-based assays. Significant experience in bioassays, especially using PBMCs and multi-colour flow cytometry to evaluate a range of immune subsets is essential.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for day to day management of studies
  • Responsible for delivery of key/discrete work packages
  • Design, co-ordinate and perform multiple experiments
  • Independently undertake advanced research, performing complex science without supervision
  • Investigate new techniques under direction
  • Prepare data for external presentations and reports
  • Contribute to writing and reviewing reports
  • Contribute to the preparation of posters and conference presentations
  • Attend and contribute to internal meetings
  • Analyse and interpret own data
  • Review data from junior staff
  • Contribute to writing and reviewing Quality and Controlled documents
  • Undertake any other duties relevant to the position and level
  • Manage own and if necessary others’ work schedule
  • Line manage junior staff, if appropriate
  • Supervise, coach and mentor junior staff and help to develop their technical skills
  • Review new technologies to support customer projects and make recommendation


  • Qualifications
  • BSc or MSc with a minimum of 4 years relevant R&D experience in immunology or a related field.
  • Relevant laboratory experience, such as isolating, maintaining and passaging both primary cells and cell lines, and setting up biochemical (e.g. ELISA) and cell-based assays (e.g. proliferation, cytotoxicity, internalization, signalling, immunophenotyping, cytokine release) using fluorescence or luminescence plate-based methods, flow cytometry or fluorescence microscopy.
  • Extensive flow cytometry experience and confidence in designing and analysing multi-colour panels is essential. Familiarity with FlowJo software is desirable.
  • Demonstrated skills in assay design, troubleshooting and data analysis.
  • Be proactive and independent with good communication skills and high level of attention to detail.
  • Be a committed team player able to work well within small teams or individually as well as contribute to the wider group.
