Assist with the provision of a welcoming and friendly front of house service for staff, students and visitors to the College, working as part of the Facilities team to provide a clean and safe environment for users of the campus’s buildings and grounds on all sites, and assist in other general facilities duties as required.

This role is 37 hours a week and 52 weeks per year.

Main Responsibilities and Duties:

The following is an indication of the type and level of the main priorities expected of this role as directed by your line manager and is not intended to be a comprehensive list of duties or tasks:
 
1. Work a shift pattern across the college opening hours, supporting College events including door supervision and crowd control, assisting with locking / unlocking of the site, providing a welcoming and friendly front line service to students, staff and visitors whilst maintaining access control, checking and ensuring ID’s are worn at all times by everyone. This will include providing cover for reception/ goods in areas out of hours and during the core hours as required, and providing cover to the wider facilities team as required, particularly during non-term time. 

2. Provide a high standard service to all college users; locking, unlocking and setting up rooms with furniture, decorations and equipment to facilitate the smooth running of teaching activities, examinations, College and commercial events as required, ensuring that the layout is well presented and that the area is safe with trip hazards controlled and fire exit routes clear.

3. Carry out daily cleaning of designated areas of the College and campus grounds, including road sweeping, litter clearance, emptying bins, and daily refuse clearance. Assist with clearing card and other materials as required, ensuring that all items are sorted correctly for recycling, re-use or disposal.

4. Collect, sort and redistribute internal and external mail, parcels and other delivered goods, providing cover for ‘Goods - in’ area during the core hours and drive College vehicles between college sites and to other locations as required.

5. Maintain high visibility and vigilance, responding to incidents, providing backup and assistance to security colleagues, covering breaks and events when required, assist with College / Campus alarm, fire and emergency procedures and evacuations, including lift release and ‘evac’ chairs as appropriate. This will include undertaking escort duties for internal and external college users as required.

6. Assist with the management of incidents on College premises, in conjunction with the Duty Managers, Facilities Managers and Head of Facilities; escalating as appropriate and contacting external services for support if deemed a requirement e.g. Police, Ambulance, Fire.

7. Assist with traffic management at peak times and for events including the monitoring of parking, access to parking facilities and security of carparks. Establish and maintain safe access to the campus and buildings during adverse weather conditions, using grit/ salt or other appropriate substance, to the agreed standards and frequencies.  

8. Assist with the upkeep and maintenance of College property and assets, carrying out basic maintenance tasks and assisting contractors as required, ensuring that all work is carried out safely and in line with agreed processes.

9. Monitor class room furniture, to include routine stock checking, periodic inventories of furniture and equipment and the identification and reporting of more complex faults,   completing regular compliance checks as instructed, including visual inspections of equipment, furnishings, external doors and access points and liaise with the Estates Team, reporting any defects in buildings, grounds or equipment immediately via the help desk.

In addition all post holders will be required to be trained to act as Fire Marshals, and First Aiders where appropriate.
