POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Merchant II is a key contributor to the product selection and merchandising strategy for the assigned brand or product category. Reporting to the Merchant or Senior Merchant, this role supports the development of seasonal assortments by combining strategic insights, competitive analysis, and business performance metrics. The Assistant Merchant II plays a critical role in product development, execution of brand strategy, and alignment of offerings with market trends and customer preferences. Success in this role requires a high degree of analytical thinking, strong cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to influence decisions through data and trend insights.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own the sample management process by maintaining and updating detailed sample lists, ensuring timely availability of items for merchant meetings and marketing use.
  • Partner with the Merchant/Senior Merchant to drive product selection and development for catalog and digital channels, contributing to line build decisions that reflect brand vision and financial goals.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with planning, marketing, sourcing, and creative teams to ensure consistent execution of merchandising strategies and seasonal launches.
  • Conduct ongoing competitive analysis by reviewing competitor assortments, catalogs, websites, and stores to identify emerging trends, pricing opportunities, and assortment gaps.
  • Analyze weekly and monthly sales reports to monitor performance, identify risks or opportunities, and develop insights to inform future merchandising decisions.
  • Review historical sales data and apply findings to optimize assortments, manage inventory, and improve promotional strategies.
  • Support the Merchandise Manager or Senior Merchant in executing brand-wide initiatives, cross-category assortments, and seasonal strategies.
  • Assist in building assortments that align with launch timelines, seasonal promotions, and business objectives, ensuring accuracy across all product and system documentation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising, Business, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in merchandising, buying, or product-related roles, with a strong focus on product development and business analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting sales and KPI data to support product and business decisions.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Proven collaboration skills with experience working cross-functionally to drive results.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; experience with PLM, ERP, or other merchandising systems is a plus.
  • A passion for product and an eye for trend, fit, and customer preference.
