- Instructional Programming (Secondary): Guide evidence-based instruction, inclusion/LRE, and SDI; review schedules, service minutes, and progress monitoring; support content-area access.
- SPED/Immersion (K–12): Coordinate special education supports within immersion programs; align practices and progress-monitoring across grade bands.
- Professional Learning (K–12): Plan and deliver PD for professional staff and paraprofessionals (classroom strategies, behavior, transition, compliance); monitor implementation.
- District CCN (DDOE Communication & Collaboration Network): Participate monthly; translate state guidance into actionable school practices.
- SPED Building Collaboration Representative: Serve as building rep with a manageable caseload; facilitate proactive problem-solving, data reviews, and timely follow-up.
- Peer Review Participation & Follow-Up: Serve on the district PRC (Tier 3, SPED-focused MTSS team); conduct/coordinate observations; ensure action items are completed.
- PIPEline & Work-Based Learning: Lead implementation of the PIPEline to Career Success; expand WBL/transition pathways; track placements, hours, and outcomes.
- Restraint/Seclusion Data & BCBA Caseloads: Review data trends; coordinate with BCBAs on caseload updates and behavior-support deployment; recommend system improvements.
- Parent Council: Co-facilitate Parent Council trainings; coordinate with Appo Families Connect; provide clear communications on services, transition, and postsecondary planning.
- Master’s degree in special education or related field required.
- Successful experience (3+ years) in secondary special education (case management, instruction, compliance, and/or leadership).
- Demonstrated expertise in IEP development, transition planning (Indicator 13), assessment accommodations (Indicator 3), MTSS, and behavior supports (FBA/BSP).
- Knowledge of IDEA and Delaware special education regulations; familiarity with DDOE reporting and state assessment systems.
- Strong skills in data analysis, coaching, project management, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Excellent written/oral communication; ability to build trust with students, families, staff, and community partners.
- Delaware educator/administrator certification or eligibility preferred (special education, school leadership, or related).
- On-time, compliant secondary IEPs; improved audit/monitoring results.
- ≥95% appropriate assessment participation and accommodations (Indicator 3).
- ≥95% compliant transition components (Indicator 13) with documented agency linkages.
- Increased WBL participation and quality placements via PIPEline.
- Timely closure of Peer Review action items; positive school feedback on support.
- Documented PD implementation with gains in fidelity and student outcomes.
- Frequent school visits; occasional evening meetings for family events.
- May supervise or coordinate assigned staff, projects, or contracted services.

Coordinator of Secondary Special Education
Reports To: Sr. Coordinator of Instructional Programming
Work Year: 12 months (districtwide, travel between schools required)
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Coordinator of Secondary Special Education leads secondary-level special education services across the district. This role ensures IEP compliance, strengthens teaching and learning, coordinates transition planning and work-based learning, and serves as a key liaison among schools, families, agencies, and the Delaware Department of Education (DDOE).

Appoquinimink School District may require you to be trained in Safety-Care or a similar competency-based crisis prevention intervention training program as a condition of your continued employment.
