Equinox VGM is currently inviting applications for a Process Plant Trainer to join our growing team as the company transitions from mine construction to mine operations.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Training Superintendent, the Process Plant Trainer has a primary responsibility to ensure that employees receive the knowledge and practical training to be a safe and productive Process Plant Operator. This role will be required to develop the skills necessary to effectively teach Occupational Health & Safety related courses. Training must be completed in accordance with company Standards and Regulatory Legislation, while ensuring Process Plant Operators have the skill level to accommodate the Process Plant operational needs.  This role must also develop/co-develop, monitor, communicate, and ensure an understanding of Departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).  As the Process Plant Trainer, you will foster healthy relationships and maintain communications with all stakeholders of the operation to help ensure training needs are identified and addressed in a timely manner. 

 

The Process Plant Trainer should have an understanding and knowledge of the working components of a processing plant operations such as grinding and crushing circuits, Sag Mill and Ball Mill, Flotation, Dewatering, Tailing Thickeners, Tailing management systems.

 

 

This position is located at the Project site, working on a 14 days in/14 days out rotation. 

 

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Promote a culture where health, safety, and environment are always the highest priority.
  • Organize and deliver effective classroom, practical field level functional competency, and follow-up training promptly. 
  • Identify training needs for Process Plant Operations and Process Plant Maintenance employees. 
  • Prepare prior learning assessments and lesson plans for employees. 
  • Contribute to the research and development of training materials and ensure that the content is both relative and supportive of the course (specifically) and the training program (generally). 
  • Schedule and deliver safe and effective classroom, practical, and follow-up operational and process plant specific safety training to both Process Plant Operations employees and Process Plant Maintenance employees in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and deliver control room training to Control Room Operators and Supervisors. 
  • Mentor and coach the employees in the safe, effective, and productive operation of all process plant operating areas and process plant mobile equipment. 
  • Evaluate employee performance and report findings to the respective Process Plant Operations/Maintenance Departments and the employee. 
  • Provide follow-up and refresher training to employees in their area of work/job (safety and job specific).
  • Development of training modules, manuals, procedures, presentations, etc. 
  • Deliver orientation training, as applicable, to all employees, contractors, and visitors to site as scheduled. 
  • Deliver specialized certification training to the entire site (as required), including Confined Space, Fall Protection, Power Line Hazards, Overhead Crane Operation. 
  • Mentor employees in hazard identification, risk assessment, and in reducing that risk to "as low as reasonably achievable."
  • Develop a training schedule considering operational commitments and employee availability.
  • Update employee records (electronic and hard copy).  
  • Prepare and provide updated reports on employee skills to the applicable leader. 
  • Enhance training material through continuous improvement, incorporate innovative ideas, SOP’s, changes, etc. to training materials. 
  • Liaise with Operational Departments to optimize training effectiveness and efficiency. 
  • Ensure all training complies with legislative requirements and company policies. 
  • Support supervisors in the development of a training plan for each employee and monitor that plan for conformance. 
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience Required:

  • Process Technician preferred or post-Secondary completion in a related field of study.   
  • 1-3 years’ in an operational role in a processing facility on a mining or industrial site is required.
  • 3-5 years’ of experience in a training capacity or similar role, with a strong understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations is required.
  • Train the Trainer certification is an asset
  • Experience working in a diverse culture and the ability to facilitate effectively.  
  • Experience in a remote work site is required. 
  • A valid driver’s license and drivers abstract required.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge and understanding of NL health, safety, and environmental acts and legislation relating to mining operations.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements at remote sites. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) as well as Outlook. 
  • Effective problem solving and proactive thinking. 
  • Excellent time management skills. 
  • Excellent facilitation skills.
