Introduction
Join Chevron Phillips Chemical, LP as a Cost Analyst based in Port Arthur, where you will play a vital role in supporting financial operations within our commercial business units and production plants. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate across functions in a dynamic environment dedicated to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
As a key member of the finance team under the Assistant Controller-Shared Finance Services division, you will leverage your analytical skills and financial knowledge to contribute to cost management, budgeting, and reporting processes that drive informed decision-making at all organizational levels.
Responsibilities
- Preparing and analyzing monthly cost results, and developing detailed forecasts of operating expenses for commercial business units and manufacturing facilities, ensuring accurate financial planning and control.
- Coordinating the plant site budget process by working closely with cost center owners to consolidate and summarize financial data, developing comprehensive budget materials, and preparing presentations for management review.
- Engaging proactively with engineers, operations, and maintenance teams to comprehend finance-related priorities and translating those insights into actionable solutions that improve financial performance.
- Collecting, transforming, and scrutinizing data to respond effectively to ad-hoc requests, validate assumptions, and identify optimization opportunities within the financial processes.
- Developing and maintaining dynamic, user-friendly reporting tools and dashboards that support transparent and efficient communication of financial information across departments.
- Collaborating with various stakeholders including commercial units, plant leadership, and finance teams at headquarters to enhance business processes and implement new systems or methodologies.
- Providing support to cost center owners and project leaders with monthly accruals, expense estimates, and financial analysis to maintain accuracy in financial reporting.
- Conducting analysis and managing the distribution of support costs to production units, ensuring compliance with financial standards and organizational policies.
- Preparing third-party billings by interpreting contractual agreements related to products and services, guaranteeing correct invoicing and timely revenue recognition.
- Reviewing Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) documentation and conducting annual assessments to uphold internal controls and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Assisting in the preparation and delivery of presentations to senior management, providing critical financial insights to support strategic decisions.
- Performing quarterly audits of assigned financial processes to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established procedures.
- Contributing to special projects such as governmental reporting requirements, benchmarking analyses, gap closure initiatives, capacity utilization studies, and assessments of lost profit opportunities to enhance the company’s competitive position.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field with a strong emphasis in business and accounting.
- At least 3 years professional experience in financial analysis, cost accounting, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for financial modeling and presentations.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles, including integration between financial statements, cost accounting methods, and capitalization policies.
- Ability to identify and articulate process and personnel issues impacting financial outcomes with a problem-solving mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification or Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
- At least 5 years professional experience in financial analysis, cost accounting or related discipline.
- Previous experience as a financial analyst or plant cost analyst in manufacturing or related industries.
- Familiarity with big data analysis techniques, applying critical thinking and advanced analytics to support decision-making.
- Hands-on experience with Power BI, SAP, Blackline, Track, and Planful financial systems.
- Knowledge of procure-to-pay processes and capitalization rules, enhancing accuracy in financial transactions and reporting.
- Capability in building and interpreting financial and business models to guide strategic initiatives.
