Are you a creative thinker with a knack for storytelling and design? The Pomona Police Department is looking for a part-time Technical Specialist – Social Media to join our Public Information Office.

In this role, you’ll work closely with our Public Information Coordinator to create engaging and eye-catching social media content, support internal and external communication efforts, and help keep our community connected.

The ideal candidate will be a creative, reliable, and collaborative team player with a strong work ethic. They will bring both technical skills and communication abilities to support the Police Department’s social media and outreach efforts.

Key qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of: Microsoft Office Suite, internet navigation, office equipment, video production, photography, and major social media platforms (Instagram, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, Facebook).

  • Skills in: Creating and sharing social media content and safely operating a motor vehicle.

  • Abilities to: Manage multiple projects, work independently and strategically, develop media strategies, communicate clearly with diverse audiences, and build positive working relationships.

Assignment and Work Schedule Overview
This hourly, part-time position averages about 20 hours per week and will not exceed 1,000 hours within a fiscal year. While the typical schedule falls Monday through Thursday during regular business hours, occasional evening or weekend assignments may be required.

Position Duties

Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in digital media, multimedia design, graphic/digital design, marketing, communications, journalism, public relations or related field.
  • Experience working in a governmental jurisdiction is highly desirable.
License or Certificates
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Class "C" driver's license and have a good driving record.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Coordinate, review, draft, deploy, reply, monitor and make recommendations for social media content including, but not limited to; City and Police Department website, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram.
  • Write social media captions, news releases, and talking points.  
  • Assist with photography and video production; create short and long formatted videos for social media.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of social media strategies and campaigns.
  • Assist in the administration and maintenance of the City and Police Department website.
  • Promote City and Police Department events, activities, facilities, and other special projects.
  • Monitor posts and comments for social media accounts.
  • Support Police Department Staff in the development of news releases, special events, flyers/brochures, community announcements, project-based communications, or other communication methods.
