Position Overview: The RF Applications Engineer is responsible for the development, design, and manufacturing support of microwave passive devices, including Filters, isolators and circulators. This role involves concept development, design documentation, prototype testing, and successful manufacturing introduction. The engineer will provide technical leadership and support across various stages of product development and lifecycle management.
Essential Job Functions:
- Design and Development: Conceptualize, plan, design, develop, and analyze microwave passive devices, including isolators and circulators, for frequencies between 1-40 GHz.
- Simulation and Testing: Utilize design simulation tools and perform experimental tests to evaluate and modify designs. Analyze equipment to establish operating data and evaluate results.
- Component Selection: Select electronic parts, components, or integrated circuitry based on specifications and reliability. Review vendor capabilities to support product development.
- Technical Support: Provide training and technical support from concept through prototype to ensure smooth transition into volume manufacturing. Interface with manufacturing to resolve production and technical problems.
- Customer Interaction: Communicate with customers on technical issues and provide applications engineering support for new product design activities. Prepare technical proposals and estimates.
- Project Management: Manage projects from concept to product launch, including preparing technical papers and presentations to support customers, sales representatives, and trade show activities.
Competencies:
- Proficiency in RF linear and non-linear circuit simulation using tools like Cadence, AWR or ADS.
- Experience with multi-layer printed wiring boards (PWB) design and layout up to 40 GHz.
- Knowledge of metallization processes, including thick film, photolithography, and thin film.
- Ability to use diagnostic and microwave evaluation and test equipment.
- Strong analytical and design methodology skills.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or SolidWorks, and standard computer software packages (Microsoft Word and Excel).
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in RF/microwave hardware development, with progressively increasing responsibility. In-depth experience in coaxial, drop-in, and waveguide and/or microstrip isolator/circulator design and manufacturing process technology.
- Skills: Competent in RF measurements and design validation procedures. Knowledgeable of system architecture and block diagram planning. Ability to apply microwave theory in the design, testing, and troubleshooting of passive microwave devices.
- Security: Must be a US Citizen, with the ability to hold a US DoD security clearance.
Travel: Up to 10% required or as business needs require; predominantly within continental U.S.
