Technician Assistant - Overnight
Reports To: Overnight Technician & Clinical Managers
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED
Experience in a veterinary practice is a must.
Associates degree in Veterinary Technology preferred
Ability to learn and continually train; patience and respect for patients; good communication skills, coordination, and ability to take direction
Ability to work in a high stress, fast-paced environment
Computer literacy with proven expertise in MS Outlook, Excel, Word; knowledge of or ability to learn Impromed, Smartflow, and IDEXX laboratory software
Essential Functions:
Must be able to ambulate/move 90% of time
Must be able to move supplies and patients up to 50 pounds
Must be able to use Fear-Free techniques to restrain patients
Must have the ability to work in a hospital setting, which includes:
Exposure to potential caustic agents, medical grade radiation, and cleaning products
Exposure to zoonotic diseases and wounds potentially inflicted by patients
Exposure to moderate to loud noises (such as barking)
Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Assistant to higher level nursing staff:
Perform restraint on dog/cat for:
IV catheter placement
Phlebotomy
Radiography
Physical exam
In-house and outpatient treatments
Bandage changes
Etc.
Assist in the timely organization of discharged patient and client visits.
Walk/feed hospitalized patients ONLY as directed by the nurse in charge of that case.
Laundry should be continuous.
Clear and wipe down all surfaces of the treatment area including workstations (counter tops, keyboards, phones, exam tables, door handles, cabinet surfaces, walls, etc.)
Restart ALL computers.
Scrub sinks. (Clear all sinks, wash any cheese boards or anything left in sinks, including wet tables)
Empty (change bags) trash receptacles.
Empty sharps containers.
Sweep and mop. Change out mop heads and solution buckets.
Wipe down scales.
Maintain stocked inventories such as syringes, needles, fluids, lines, bandage material, surgical supplies, etc.
Perform and/or organize in-house and outsourced laboratory testing. Dispose of samples from the previous week.
Empty Catalyst and Sedi-vue.
Wipe down the lab area.
Wipe down, clean and stock radiology.
Check exam rooms to make sure they were cleaned and stocked by PCD. (This includes all outer rooms)
Clean, wrap and sterilize surgical instruments/packs.
Clean cages and areas on top of cages. Clean oxygen cage doors with glass cleaner.
Empty soda lime tray and water trap of oxygen cages.
Wash dishes.
Clean clipper blades.
Clean otoscope attachments.
Make flushes.
Miscellaneous
General knowledge of fluid pumps.
Accurate use of Cubex inventory management system for lab supply retrieval; report supply shortages to Inventory manager.
Adhere to Employee Policy Manual, Hospital Procedure Manual and Safety Plan 4. Perform related work and additional duties as requested by Owners/Hospital Directors and Management
