Role
The Consumer Loan originator demonstrates a highly motivated, positive, outgoing, and influential personality with a strong emphasis on deepening member relationships via a consultative sales approach. Demonstrates an unsurpassed commitment to exceptional member service by having a thorough knowledge of the credit union’s consumer loan products and services. Consistently demonstrates the ability to think outside the box by effectively responding to each member’s unique situation.
- Originate and manage a pipeline of consumer loan applications over the phone and online. Process accurate loan applications, review the information, conduct loan interviews with members, and clearly articulate the information gathered to the underwriter.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and professionally, ensuring an excellent experience for members and seamless collaboration with internal team members. Must interact effectively with members to understand their financial needs and recommend suitable loan products. Ensure accuracy and timeliness in all member communications and data input.
- Must use company's communication philosophy while interacting with consumer loan applicants and provide information on consumer loan products that best meet the member’s needs. Request, review, and deliver all appropriate documentation to underwriters.
- Conducts quality loan interviews with members using our service and communication methodology to meet member needs through Navigator Credit Union products and services. Cross-sell additional credit union products and services that meet member’s financial needs and or goals.
- Must properly identify members according to Navigator Credit Union policies and procedures when conducting transactions or providing account information.
- Accurately interprets the Fair Credit Report Act to assess creditworthiness and ensure compliance with lending regulations.
- Maintain a high level of understanding of consumer loan products and feature to identify, review, and promote appropriate products and services.
- Required to meet or exceed monthly sales targets and performance metrics while being detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
- Must effectively escalate members disputes or issues through chain of command when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned by manager.
- Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Knowledge and Skills
Experience
- One year to three years of similar or related experience. One year of experience in a sales environment is preferred.
Education / Certifications / Licenses
- High school degree or GED required. College course completion preferred. Bilingual Preferred.
Interpersonal Skills
- Communication both oral and written is a significant part of this role. It will be necessary to adapt communication style to a wide variety of members. One must be able to relay information at a speed and in terms which are easy to understand. Information regarding loan applications and decisions will often be relayed in writing. Written communication must be professional, concise and free of grammatical and spelling errors. A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required when handling member’s personal financial information. It is necessary to be able to convey empathy regarding difficult loan decisions and when members are financially vulnerable. Sales and product education is a significant portion of the role. It requires being able to identify opportunities and present anv appropriate product mix with confidence and an in-depth understanding of the costs and benefits of products offered.

Physical Requirements
- Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 5 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must by capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise.
