Reports to: Facilities Manager

Status: Non-exempt, part-time to full-time (24–40 hours/week)

Schedule: Evening shifts (approx. 8:00pm – 2:00am)

Rate of Pay: $22.00–$25.00/hour, DOE

Work Locations: Both Co-op stores and Admin/Bakery


POSITION SUMMARY

The Facilities Assistant supports the ongoing operations of the Co-op by maintaining and performing preventative care on refrigeration and related equipment. This position primarily works after-hours to minimize disruption to store operations, with responsibilities divided between the two store locations and occasional work at the bakery/administrative office. While refrigeration case maintenance is the primary focus, the Facilities Assistant may also assist with general facilities tasks as needed.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform preventative maintenance on refrigeration cases, coolers, and freezers.
  • Troubleshoot and address basic refrigeration performance issues.
  • Conduct regular inspections and cleanings of equipment to ensure safe, efficient operation.
  • Document maintenance work, noting needed repairs and communicating with the Facilities Manager.
  • Travel between store locations (and occasionally the bakery) to complete scheduled work.
  • Assist with other facilities maintenance tasks as assigned, including minor plumbing, mechanical, and building upkeep.
  • Follow all safety protocols and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.


Requirements

  • Experience in refrigeration, HVAC, or plumbing preferred; training will be provided.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently during evening hours.
  • Reliable transportation to travel between Co-op locations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to bend, kneel, and reach overhead to perform equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. safely.
  • Comfort working in cold environments (refrigeration and freezer units).
  • Ability to stand and move for extended periods during shift.
  • Manual dexterity for handling tools, parts, and small equipment.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to FDA-approved wellness products and cleaning chemicals
