TITLE: Student Assignment Services Manager

 

LOCATION: Student Assignment Services (SAS) Center, 91 School Street

 

REPORTS TO: Student Assignment Services Senior Administrator

 

ANNUAL SALARY: $70,487- $97,487

 

GENERAL SUMMARY: To provide leadership in SAS’s mission to provide informative, timely and overall positive customer and employee experiences.  The Manager will serve as the direct point of contact for various student assignment processes and functions. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a Student Assignment Services team (3-5 including full-time and/ or seasonal)
  • Directly facilitate, manage and promote the following district/ state assignment processes/ programs:

Preschool Student Enrollment and Non-Special Education Assignments (1,500- 2,000 students per year)

 

Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity (METCO) grant (approximately 100 students in program)

 

School Choice program for students into Springfield (capacity of 30 annually from Kindergarten to grade 8)

 

School Choice program for Springfield students attending other districts (track only)

  • Coordinate with SPS Special Education Preschool team to establish lasting student assignment and family communication processes
  • Lead data tracking and reporting processes for applicable student populations
  • Work directly with other SAS Manager(s) and Analysts(s) to provide content expertise within the overall SAS planning and reporting processes
  • Collaborate with other SPS teams: Special Education, Attendance, Nursing, Multi-language Learners (MLL), Information Technology (IT), Business Office, Transportation for student enrollment/ assignment purposes
  • Identify and communicate significant patterns and trends with preschool, METCO and School Choice assignment data and provide applicable recommendations
  • Represent SPS and SAS on various committees/ boards when appropriate
  • Collaboratively promote student assignment practices with families and stakeholders
  • Adjust and update communication and marketing methods (digital, face-to-face, print) based on applicable feedback and data
  • Play lead role in updating the SPS’s Student Assignment Services policy
  • Offer platform for families to address any applicable concerns
  • Other duties as designated by the Student Assignment Services Senior Administrator

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Demonstrate good character and proper social capability to relate effectively with racially and ethnically diverse SPS teams, students, and the community
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree required
  • Grant management experience required
  • Requires at least 3-5 years of relevant experience and 1 or more years in management capacity
  • Experience in preschool student enrollment field preferred
  • Possess excellent computer skills including Microsoft software programs such as: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.
  • Experience working collaboratively with families, educators and community organizations
  • Track record of strong organizational, interpersonal and team-building skills
  • Interpret, explain, and apply expertise of District policies, regulations, policies and procedures

KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Springfield Public School district processes, policies and procedures
  • Ability to exercise supervision of a team while maintaining high standards of personal performance
  • Ability to interact with and support members of diverse populations
  • Ability to handle common inquiries or complaints
  • Ability to respond to questions from students, faculty, staff, and visitors
  • Ability to establish and maintain constructive and cooperative interpersonal relationships with employees, peers, supervisors
  • Ability to provide positive and effective customer service
  • Ability to adapt to and accommodate new methods and procedures
  • Ability to apply listening skills, work under pressure, address conflict and solve problems
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret standards, policies, procedures and regulations
  • Ability to effectively present information using attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

 

This position requires employees to be in an indoor office environment.  Employees are often exposed to individuals who are rude or irate and sometimes exposed to individuals with known violent backgrounds or communicable diseases.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Bilingual ability (written and oral) a plus
  • Willing to work a schedule which coincides with the operational needs of the Student Assignment Services Center
  • Overtime is required during busy season(s)
