POSITION TITLE:            Craftsman, Grounds

 

DEPARTMENT:                     Warehouse

 

REPORTS TO:                  Director of Buildings & Grounds

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide a high standard of services by following trained procedures and/or practices to assist in providing a safe, clean and healthy learning environment for students, staff, and patrons of the Ottumwa Community School District in adherence to the Mission Statement and objectives of the district.

 

  1. Provide regular, preventative, and predictive maintenance and improvements for all district grounds and athletic fields. This includes mowing, trimming, seeding, fertilizing, spraying, painting fields, plowing snow, spreading ice melt, and playground maintenance.

 

  1. Repair/install fences, install/maintain signage, assist with installation and maintenance of playground and gym equipment.

 

  1. Trimming and removal of trees and shrubs, maintenance of plants and landscaping of district grounds.

 

  1. Pour and finish concrete, general maintenance of sidewalks, paths, parking lots, and playgrounds.

 

  1. Operation and maintenance of equipment including but not limited to mowers, tractors, snow removal equipment, trucks, loaders, and related equipment. Maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance may include replacement of filters, belts, etc.

 

  1. Supervision and coordination of seasonal grounds employees and mowing crew personnel.

 

  1. Other duties as may be assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school education or equivalent and minimum of two (2) years of experience in a related field.
  2. Have excellent health as confirmed by physical examination, with no physical limitations.
  3. Ability to lift 50 lbs. throughout shift. Frequent lifting, bending, carrying, and moving heavy objects, such as furniture.  Requires physical endurance.
  4. Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.

 

  1. Maintain confidentiality.
  2. Must be able to get along with others and have a positive mental attitude.
  3. Must be able to follow directions, be cooperative, flexible, industrious and have a willingness to learn.
  4. Must have the ability to read and interpret rules, reports, procedures and policies.
  5. Skillful in the correct operation and maintenance of district equipment.
  6. Have considerable knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods and practices of this and related trades.
  7. Ability to interpret and work from sketches and blueprints.
  8. Become familiar with all requirements and applicable laws, including service and maintenance documentation, inventory management and storage, and any disposal of hazardous materials.
  9. Willingness to work variable shift not limited to emergencies, special projects, and inclement weather.
  10. Be on call 24 hours for emergency situations.
  11. Ability to work in extreme and/or inclement weather and in confined spaces.

 

 

LICENSURE:

-         Possess, or able to obtain within 30 days of employment, an Iowa certified pesticide

applicators license

-         Valid driver’s license

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

          Full-time, year round position.

Competitive hourly rate based upon negotiated Master Contract.
