About the Department
Colorado Legislative Council Staff (LCS), is the nonpartisan research agency of the Colorado General Assembly, the legislative branch of the State of Colorado. LCS serves as the General Assembly’s primary research and committee staff, employing fiscal note analysts, economists, research analysts, committee analysts, and constituent services analysts. In addition, LCS houses the legislature’s visitor services and tour guide staff; central accounting staff; and print shop staff. Finally, LCS provides a full service IT department for the legislative branch, employing support, application development, system administration, digital accessibility, and cybersecurity positions.

Position Duties
About the Position
The Information Desk Assistant is the first point of contact for Capitol visitors after they have passed through security. The Information Desk Assistant welcomes visitors, provides information and directions, signs in guests for tours, provides administrative support for visitor services staff, and leads tours as needed. This is a nonpartisan position.
Primary responsibilitiesThe primary responsibilities of the Information Desk Assistant include:
- confirming group visits;
- assembling educational materials for visitors;
- providing phone support pertaining to reservation scheduling and general Capitol information;
- maintaining Visitor Services stations;
- Creating and assembling weekly communications for volunteers and staff;
- assisting with the bi-monthly Capitol Post
- assisting with inventory and ordering of visitor brochures, maps, magazines, and supplies;
- providing general Capitol and tour information to visitors;
- being familiar with tour logistics and daily operations;
- providing Capitol, Legislative, Mr. Brown’s Attic, and Dome tours as needed; and
- other duties as assigned.
This is a full-time, hourly, at-will contract position. The position requires a full-time, in person, presence at the Colorado State Capitol. Applicants must be authorized to work in the US. Persons seeking full-time remote or visa sponsorship need not apply. Pursuant to the Colorado constitution, legislative employees, including this position, are not part of the state personnel system.
Salary and benefitsThe hourly rate for this position is $25 per hour, plus benefits during your contract employment period through September 15, 2026, with the option to extend based on review. Minimum Qualifications
Education and experience requirements
Your educational background is a high school degree or GED. You should have experience in customer service and basic computer skills. Experience working with children and people with a variety of special needs, and enthusiasm for working with the public are a plus.
