Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a Senior Historic Tax Credits (HTC) consultant to support a portfolio of client projects involving federal and state historic tax credit applications. This role will work with senior team members to advise developers, property owners, investors, and architects on accessing tax credits for historic rehabilitation projects while meeting regulatory and design standards.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and assist with federal and state HTC certification applications (Parts 1–3 and state equivalents).
- Conduct historical and architectural research, site documentation, and field verification to support applications.
- Review design and construction plans for conformance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
- Coordinate with internal teams, architects, contractors, and owners to gather documentation and meet deadlines.
- Draft reports, narratives, and visual materials (e.g., maps, photographs, drawings) for submission.
- Develop work plans, scopes, cost estimates, and schedules as well as project document preparation.
- Interact and interface with clients, agencies and other project stakeholders.
- Support senior staff with client communications, regulatory inquiries, and responses to SHPO/NPS comments.
- Contribute to proposals, presentations, and thought leadership activities to strengthen the firm’s HTC consulting services.
- Create and maintain internal relationships across Stantec’s practices and geographies to promote collaboration and cross-selling of services. Additional duties may include support for local and National Register of Historic Places nominations, preservation plans, historic structure reports, cultural resource education materials, Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record (HABS/HAER) documentation, planning and implementing of mitigation, and other types of special projects.
- Maintain organized project files and track key milestones.
- Complete work in line with Stantec’s Core Values and in accordance with our Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) procedures and Design Delivery Guidelines.
- Demonstrate active commitment to Stantec’s code of business conduct and ethics policies.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- In-depth knowledge of the federal HTC program, state HTC programs, and the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards.
- Ability to interpret architectural drawings and specifications.
- Strong technical writing and editing skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent research and documentation abilities, including archival and online sources.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop) and Microsoft Office; GIS experience a plus.
- Effective communicator able to translate technical concepts for clients and reviewers.
- Highly organized, able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Collaborative team player with a consulting mindset and client-service orientation.
- Must be willing to travel to meet project needs.
- Requires valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Architecture, Planning, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 5+ years’ professional experience in HTC consulting with application preparation experience.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
