Position Summary:
Responsible for the general care and transportation of animals between different locations as well as supporting the Community Engagement Team
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs local and long distance transportation of animals as directed which may include veterinary appointments, mobile adoptions, transport to animal welfare organizations serving as destination shelters across regions, to airport cargo shipping areas, shelter/rescue pick up and/or boarding facilities.
Assists in coordinating transport requests from destination shelters/animal welfare organizations
Inspects vehicle to ensure that it is in a clean and operable condition; completes inspection paperwork/checklist; reports the need for service or repair; ensures that vehicles are scheduled for routine maintenance as required; fuels the vehicle.
Submits and maintains reports and logs of activities.
Responsible for keeping all vehicles used for transport and mobile adoptions clean and fully stocked before and after use, and for safely parking and storing vehicle.
Loads, unloads and transports pre-selected animals/supplies from designated shelter facilities to/from veterinarians, adoption venues, foster homes, boarding, etc.
Ensures that animals aboard the vehicle are cared for to the highest standards including fresh water, food, clean cage environment, blanket, hiding spot if initially nervous, temperature control and potty breaks for dogs, etc.
Obtains all medical records and animal paperwork and ensure that paperwork goes with the animal and is given to appropriate staff.
Provides monitoring of transported animals and reports any signs of illness or injury according to department procedure.
Maintains a professional appearance at all times.
Provides information and assistance to internal and external customers as required.
Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Equivalent to a High School diploma/GED.
License & Certification Requirements:
Incumbent must be at least 21 years of age, and possess and maintain a valid Class C Nevada Driver License. Incumbents under age 25 must possess and maintain a clean driving record, and be licensed for at least three years prior. Those over age 25 must possess and maintain a safe driving record that will allow for acceptable insurance risk to the Foundation.

Principles and practices of animal care.
Laws, rules and regulations for operating a motor vehicle in the state of Nevada.
Safety principles, practices and equipment related to the work.
County geography.
Standard office practices and procedures, including records management.
Communicating effectively in oral and written forms.
Animal behavior traits.
Techniques for dealing effectively with co-workers and the public, in person and over the telephone.
Skill in:
Working without close supervision in standard work situations.
Maintaining accurate records of work performed.

Animal restraint and transportation techniques.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
Physical ability and mobility to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Strength to lift and/or move materials weighing up to 25 pounds frequently, 50 pounds occasionally. Vision to read printed materials. Stamina to sit and work with computer for an extended period of time as well as drive and/or ride in a vehicle for an extended period of time. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.
Job incumbent is continuously exposed to frequent travel, animals, animal waste, potentially harming cleaning chemicals, high noise and potentially hazardous conditions, including the risk of animal bites and occasional work outdoors for extended periods of time while exposed to cold and extremely hot temperatures.
