Position Description:

We are looking for an experienced Linux Systems Administrator to support the installation, maintenance, and security of a complex technical environment. The ideal candidate will be skilled in Linux administration (CentOS and/or RHEL), virtualization, patching, scripting, and compliance tasks. This role requires both hands-on technical expertise and the ability to follow and contribute to established operational procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux systems (CentOS and RHEL).
  • Troubleshoot Linux performance, connectivity, and storage-related issues.
  • Build, configure, and maintain virtual machines (VMs).
  • Perform system patching using YUM and ensure compliance with security directives.
  • Review and act on vulnerability reports, support IAVA compliance, and manage POA&Ms.
  • Manage PKI certificates – renewing and revoking as needed.
  • Utilize Nessus for scanning and monitoring.
  • Administer Nagios for system monitoring and alerting.
  • Apply and maintain configurations using Ansible playbooks and ad hoc commands.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs using Confluence.
  • Support compliance and monitoring
  • Write and maintain intermediate-level shell scripts for automation.
  • Use Git for version control, including check-ins, branching/tagging, and repository management.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience with Linux systems administration (CentOS and/or RHEL).
  • Proficient in VM maintenance: creation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiar with reading and interpreting vulnerability reports and ensuring system compliance.
  • Experience with system patching via YUM.
  • Working knowledge of Ansible: writing playbooks, executing commands, and managing configurations.
  • Comfortable working with PKI, including certificate renewal and revocation processes.
  • Skilled in shell scripting for automation and system tasks.
  • Familiarity with STE tools such as Trellis Agent, Nessus, ENSL, and UAM.
  • Experience with Nagios administration and alert tuning.
  • Proficient in Git for source control: repository management, branching, tagging.
  • Experience documenting procedures and processes in Confluence.

Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must hold an active clearance with a Full Scope Polygraph
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field
  • 15 years of professional experience
     

Physical Requirements:

 

  • This position involves sedentary work with physical requirements expected for at least 50% of the time. Essential functions include prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and talking.
