Financial Counselor - Patient Access Services - OP
We’re looking for a highly motivated, high energy and qualified Financial Counselor to join our Texas Health family.

Position Highlights
· Work location: Texas Health Harris 1301 Pennsylvania Ave Fort Worth, TX 76104
· Work hours: Full Time; 40 Hours/week; Days; Monday - Friday; 8:30am-5pm
Department Highlights:
· The Financial Counselor interacts in a professional, respectful manner with internal and external customers, provides excellent customer service to patients and visitors.
· Team-oriented work environment with expanded resources from other Patient Access areas.
· Cross-training opportunities within different areas of Patient Access.
What You Will Do
· Duties to include, but not limited to:
-Helps patients understand their insurance benefits, financial responsibilities, and available assistance programs in a compassionate and clear way.
-Provides accurate cost estimates, set up payment plans, and assist with financial assistance applications.
-Advocates for patients by explaining coverage options and working with external agencies to secure funding when needed.
-Identifies potential coverage gaps and educate patients about their financial options before services are rendered.
-Verifies insurance benefits and ensure pre-authorization requirements are met before scheduled services.
-Works closely with physician offices, case managers, and patients to prevent unexpected financial burdens.
-Assists in resolving claim denials and explain Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) in easy-to-understand terms.
-Utilizes online tools, databases, and insurance portals to ensure accurate eligibility verification.
-Ensures a smooth patient experience by managing Financial Clearance Work queues and providing Good Faith Estimates (GFE).
-Records and maintain accurate patient demographic and financial data in our electronic health records (EHR) system
-Assists patients with Medicaid applications, financial assistance forms, and public assistance programs.
-Works alongside facility leadership and revenue cycle teams to maximize reimbursement and minimize financial barriers.
-Applies superior customer service skills to set expectations about the patient experience and use THR's First Impression principles to deliver top-tier customer service.
-Maintains a friendly, professional, and empathetic approach when discussing financial matters with patients and families.
-Collaborates with clinical teams and patient navigators to ensure financial processes do not delay care.
-Serves as a mentor to new team members, sharing knowledge and best practices.
-Stays up to date on federal, state, and hospital financial policies to ensure compliance with regulations.
-Participates in staff meetings, training sessions, and process improvement initiatives.
-Keeps detailed records of financial discussions and transactions in patient accounts.
-Identifies ways to improve financial counseling processes to create a better experience for both patients and the organization.
Here’s What You Need:
Education
H.S. Diploma or Equivalent Required
Experience
1 Year Collections experience Preferred
2 Years Hospital admissions experience Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
CHAA - Certified Healthcare Access Associate Preferred Upon Hire
CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training Required with 90 Days of Hire
Skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service and patient advocacy.
Ability to analyze insurance coverage, explain benefits, and solve billing issues with confidence.
Tech-savvy and proficient in Epic, Meditech, Microsoft Office Suite, and financial/registration software.
Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, especially in high-pressure situations.
Comfortable multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Ability to work with diverse patient populations and show empathy in sensitive financial discussions.
Bilingual (Spanish) preferred, but not required.
