The Insurance Manager at Berkadia is responsible for overseeing the company's insurance operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and company policies. This role involves managing a team dedicated to the procurement, administration, and review of insurance policies that protect the company’s assets and minimize risk exposure. The Insurance Manager will also negotiate with insurance brokers and carriers, develop risk management strategies, and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure coverage meets the evolving needs of the business. Additionally, the Insurance Manager will analyze claims data to improve processes and reduce costs, ensuring the financial stability and integrity of Berkadia’s insurance programs.

  • Oversee the documentation, continuous updating, and review of procedures and controls with the insurance team.
  • Manage the recruitment, training, and supervision of insurance staff, including conducting performance evaluations.
  • Ensure timely completion of insurance deliverables and manage insurance assignments.
  • Generate and distribute reports on insurance volume and activities.
  • Drive process improvements by implementing technology solutions, collaborating with developers to communicate business needs and monitor project progress.
  • Maintain up-to-date master investor requirement records.
  • Collaborate with agents, carriers, and borrowers to secure and renew insurance policies.
  • Assess borrower’s insurance coverage for compliance and calculate monthly impounds.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders including investors, lenders, and borrowers to ensure insurance policies comply with investor guidelines and loan documents.
  • Address and resolve insurance-related issues by assessing loan documents and investor guidelines, and coordinate with relevant parties to ensure compliance.
  • Work with Client Relations Managers and other stakeholders to manage forced place insurance situations.
  • Respond to inquiries from borrowers regarding cancellations, premium disputes, and discrepancies from previous servicers.
  • Interpret legal documents to ensure accurate data input into servicing systems, identify trigger events, and fulfill investor deliverables.
  • Maintain and manage insurance documentation in line with internal and external requirements, including preparing insurance loan document packages for imaging.
  • Prepare and submit insurance review forms, investor forms, and certifications to meet investor requirements.
  • Assist Client Relations Managers with insurance analysis for loan events such as assumptions, modifications, and collateral releases, including preparing required insurance forms.
  • Conduct quality control reviews of closing insurance packages.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Advanced knowledge of insurance policies, regulatory compliance, and risk management, coupled with experience in the mortgage or financial services industry.
  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to manage, train, and motivate a team, ensuring high performance and adherence to deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using technology to streamline processes, including experience with database management and software specific to the insurance or financial industry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively collaborating with multiple stakeholders and resolving complex insurance issues
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar position
