Overview:

Under supervision performs skilled electrical work in connection with the installation, maintenance, repair, and alteration of electrical systems, machinery, and equipment; may exercise work direction over craftsmen involved in such work; and performs related duties as required.  May involve work with high voltage (277 VAC – 480 VAC and up to 1000VDC) equipment and installation, maintenance, testing.

The salary for this position is:

$33.18- Starting rate per hour

$35.32- After completion of six (6) months

$46.02- Top rate after thirty six (36) months

 

The position will remain open until a candidate is selected.

 

Responsibilities:

This list is intended to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification and is not designed to be interpreted as an exhaustive listing of all tasks required of employees assigned to this job.

  • Installs, maintains, tests, and repairs electrical devices and distribution systems such as:

Lighting and auxiliary lighting systems; Power circuits; Motors and motor / process controls; Life safety systems; Electronic controls and relays; Main distribution circuit breakers and branch circuit breakers; Irrigation control systems and other electrical equipment that may be in confined spaces.

  • Inspects and repairs generating equipment and uninterrupted power supply (UPS) and its auxiliary accessories.
  • Cuts, effectively bends, and installs rigid conduit, electrical metallic tubing (EMT) and pull current carrying conductors.
  • Reads drawings, ladder diagrams, schematics, sketches, and blueprints.
  • Guides, informs, and trains assigned Facilities Technicians.
  • Troubleshoots burner assemblies for Parts Washers and Paint Booth Heaters and performs routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Sets up and uses ladders, staging, aerial lift trucks and light towers, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Collateral Facitilites Duties:

  • Visually inspects and troubleshoots fueling delivery and distribution systems, equipment and monitoring and dedicated detecting systems within time and quality measurements to ensure all operational, health, safety, and regulatory compliance requirements are met.
  • Maintains and repairs fueling systems and equipment within time and quality measurements to ensure all operational, health, safety, and regulatory compliance requirements are met.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots, maintains and repairs of facilities plumbing, systems, within time and quality measurements to ensure all operational, health, safety, and regulatory compliance requirements are met.
  • Oversees and ensures work performed by contracted services meet contractual time and quality measurements to ensure all operational, health, safety, and regulatory compliance requirements are met.
  • Maintains records, spreadsheets, logs, reports, systems, certifications, permits, etc., within city, county, state, and federal compliance requirements within time and quality measurements to ensure successful governmental and/or Agency audit results.
  • Completes and/or performs special assignments and construction projects, utilizing skills including welding, painting, landscaping, masonry, etc. within time and quality measurements.
  • Analyzes, evaluates, and/or repairs facilities’ safety and test systems within time and quality measurements.

 

Qualifications:

A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and completion of an accredited electrical training program and 3 years of experience in the field with knowledge of various types of electrical equipment and applied methods of installation per the National Electric Code (NEC) and the California state electrical safety orders of existing safety codes, ordinances, and regulations.  Electrical Safety Worker, NFPA 70E, and Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification designation(s) preferred.  Experience with battery electric automotive and bus chargers are a plus.

 

Special Qualifications:

Must possess a valid California Driver License with a safe driving record.

Photocopy of the certificate of completion of a recognized electrical training program.

Must utilize Cal/OSHA-required and/or Agency mandated personal protective equipment when needed.

Must be able to wear respiratory protection.

Knowledge of:

  • Application of electrical safety practices, determination, and use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Skill in the use and handling of electrical equipment and tools used in the electrical trade.
  • Industrial machinery troubleshooting and equipment repair.
  • Facilities maintenance repair and related construction.
  • Hazardous material management and handling (HAZMAT).
  • NFPA 70, National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70E: Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace, and Cal/OSHA electrical safety standards and safe work practices.
  • Arc flash and arc blast evaluations and safe practices.
  • Computer software skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications such as MS Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Time management principles.

Ability to:

  • Safely operate hand and power tools used in maintaining buildings, facilities and in the Electrician Trade.
  • Diagnose and correct malfunctions in industrial and automated facilities equipment.
  • Lift and move moderately heavy objects, work from ladders and in confined spaces.
  • Read and comprehend single-line diagrams, instruction manuals, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), notices of regulatory compliance, etc., and act upon content.
  • Listen attentively, analyze situations, interpret complex data, identify problems, recommend solutions, and evaluate outcomes to determine strategies to adopt an effective course of action.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Work independently, proactively, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Operate a forklift and man-lift and work above 30 feet.
  • Climb roof ladders and lift tools to roof tops, as necessary.
  • Prioritize, organize, and perform multiple responsibilities to meet time constraints and deadlines.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with tact and diplomacy with the public, management, contractors, and other internal/external customers.
  • Travel to and from offsite locations within reasonable time limits.
  • Manage and apply Lock-Out / Tag-Out procedures.
  • Application of electrical safety standards and personal protective equipment needs and use.
