The Gist…

We are seeking an experienced API Coach with expertise in   Google Apigee to provide hands-on guidance, technical mentorship, and best   practices in API design, development, and governance. The API Coach will   serve as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to technical and   non-technical teams, helping to standardize API practices, improve API   lifecycle management, and enable successful adoption of Apigee across the   enterprise. This role blends technical expertise with coaching, knowledge   transfer, and organizational enablement.


What Your Day Might Include…

Coaching & Enablement

  • Provide hands-on coaching to development teams   on API design, implementation, and lifecycle management using Apigee.
  • Mentor developers, architects, and business   stakeholders on API-first design principles, security, scalability, and   governance.
  • Conduct workshops, knowledge-sharing sessions,   and brown-bag trainings to strengthen API competency across teams.

API Design & Development Support

  • Guide teams in designing RESTful and   event-driven APIs that align with enterprise standards.
  • Assist in developing API proxies, policies,   and security protocols within Apigee.
  • Support API versioning, monitoring, and   performance optimization.

Governance & Best Practices

  • Define and evangelize API governance frameworks,   coding standards, and design guidelines.
  • Establish reusable templates, patterns, and   documentation for consistent API delivery.
  • Promote API reuse, discoverability, and   cataloging via Apigee Edge/Apigee X.

Collaboration & Advisory

  • Partner with product owners, architects, and   DevOps teams to align API strategies with business goals.
  • Provide strategic input on API platform   capabilities, enhancements, and roadmap evolution.
  • Work with security and compliance teams to   ensure APIs meet enterprise and regulatory standards.

Continuous Improvement

  • Assess team maturity and provide tailored   coaching to accelerate adoption.
  • Capture lessons learned and continuously   refine coaching approaches and technical playbooks.
  • Track coaching outcomes and measure API maturity   progress.



Requirements

You’ll Bring These   Qualifications…

  • Bachelor Degree; 5+ years of experience in API design, development, and integration.
  • Hands-on expertise with Google Apigee (Edge/X/Hybrid) including API proxy development, policies, and security.
  • Strong knowledge of REST, JSON, OAuth2, JWT, and API security standards.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, and API monitoring/analytics.
  • Proven experience coaching or mentoring technical teams.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills to bridge technical and business audiences.

Preferred

  • Experience with GraphQL, event-driven APIs, or microservices.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Background in enterprise architecture, API strategy, or platform adoption initiatives.
  • Certifications in Apigee, GCP, or API management.
