Position Overview:
We are seeking a Technical Service Training Manager to lead technician development programs across our heavy equipment and power generation service teams. This role will focus on enhancing technical skills, safety practices, diagnostic capabilities, and career growth for our service personnel. You will design and implement training programs that ensure our technicians are equipped to deliver exceptional service and support to our customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive technical training strategy aligned with Wheeler’s service goals and Caterpillar standards.
- Assess skill gaps and training needs across technician roles in heavy equipment and power generation.
- Design and deliver hands-on training programs, certifications, and workshops focused on diagnostics, repairs, safety, and equipment operation.
- Collaborate with service managers and technical experts to ensure training content reflects current technologies and field practices.
- Monitor training effectiveness using performance metrics, certifications, and feedback; refine programs based on insights.
- Support technician onboarding and career progression through structured development pathways.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in technical training or service management within heavy equipment or power generation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Diesel Technology, or related field.
- Strong knowledge of Caterpillar equipment, diagnostics, and service procedures.
- Experience designing and delivering hands-on technical training programs.
- Familiarity with LMS platforms and Caterpillar training systems.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master Technician Certification or equivalent.
- Experience with instructional design and adult learning principles.
- Experience managing training budgets and vendor relationships.
Skills & Competencies:
- Technical expertise in heavy equipment and power systems.
- Strong facilitation and coaching skills.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into effective training.
- Project management skills to coordinate multiple training initiatives.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Work Environment and Location:
This position is based in Salt Lake City, UT, with flexibility for travel to branch locations and field sites. Hands-on training delivery will require time in service bays, classrooms, and customer job sites.
Compensation & Benefits:
Competitive salary range: $100,000 – $120,000, based on experience.
