About the Department
The City of Jefferson is seeking a Laboratory Pretreatment Supervisor to oversee the laboratory operations for the Wastewater Treatment plant and related facilities for the Wastewater Division of Public Works.
Position Duties
Administers an approved pretreatment program. Supervises and manages all aspects of the Laboratory. Collects samples for pretreatment laboratory analysis. Conducts various laboratory analysis including BOD, TSS, temperature, ph, DO, MLSS, MLVSS, Settleable solids, microbial, settlemeter, solids, winkler. Conducts various field samples with portable lab equipment including TSS, temp., ph, DO. Calculates, interprets and maintains laboratory results. Conducts microbial examination and identification; monitors lagoons; and creates spreadsheet reports for plant and State regulations. Plans and coordinates all process, biosolids and pretreatment sampling for laboratory.
Performs various administrative duties, including record keeping, filing reports, assisting with development of pretreatment and laboratory budgets, and requisitioning equipment and supplies. Reviews/edits Standard Operation Procedures for Laboratory.
Conducts inspection of all local industrial facilities. Supervision of sampling and collection of samples for City and local industrial facilities. Maintains an effective safety laboratory program.
Assists with the land application program. Orders laboratory supplies, chemicals and equipment, and calibrates laboratory equipment. Conducts quality control and quality assurance.
Informs both plant manager and plant supervisors of changes in data.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires an accredited Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology or a related environmental studies and four years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of chemistry and/or microbiology; and knowledge of hazards and safety precautions relating to using chemicals and performing tests on potentially hazardous substances. Ability to use Microsoft Office.
Must have a valid Missouri Driver's License. Missouri Class A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's License is preferred.
Physical: Ability to work in extreme weather conditions. Ability to lift, bend, squat, twist, stoop, reach, climb and stand. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Ability to work with hazardous chemicals. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to traverse over rough terrain.
Mental: Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Ability to understand, apply and utilize chemical and mathematical equations and calculations. Ability to understand State and Federal regulations regarding wastewater treatment and its effects. Ability to follow standard methods for laboratory analytical procedures. Ability to understand methods, practices and equipment in wastewater treatment and apply to process control. Ability to work efficiently under stressful conditions. Ability to understand and follow safe procedures.
Other Qualifications
Typical hours worked are Monday through Friday 7:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. The City offers an outstanding benefits package including health, life and dental insurances.
