Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist supports the daily operations of the HR department and serves as a key advisor on policies, compliance, employee relations, and HR best practices. This role partners with management and staff to implement and administer programs related to recruitment, onboarding, performance management, compensation, leave, benefits, and employee engagement. The HR Generalist exercises independent judgment and discretion on matters of significance, contributing directly to organizational performance and culture.


Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Administers employee lifecycle programs, including new hire orientation, offboarding, employee recognition, and internal transfers.
  • Provides day-to-day guidance on HR policies, procedures, and best practices; interprets and applies employment law and organizational policy.
  • Participates in and conducts employee relations investigations and recommends appropriate courses of action.
  • Supports performance management processes, including coaching, documentation, and improvement plans in collaboration with supervisors and leadership.
  • Oversees leave administration (FMLA, ADA, personal, etc.) and ensures compliance with federal, state, and organizational guidelines.
  • Assists in administering compensation and benefits programs; advises staff on eligibility and supports open enrollment and renewal processes.
  • Owns and manages bi-weekly payroll process through validation of HRIS records, timekeeping, and employee changes (NOCs).
  • Maintains accurate employee records in HRIS; prepares reports and audits for compliance and strategic use.
  • Supports training and development initiatives by coordinating programs and monitoring completion.
  • Contributes to employee engagement, retention, and morale-building strategies and programs.
  • Reviews and updates HR policies and procedures; stays informed on regulatory changes, trends, and emerging best practices in HR.
  • Serves as a resource to HR Coordinator and other team members; may provide task-level guidance but does not have formal supervisory duties.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills with the ability to consult across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills.
  • High attention to detail, organizational and time management skills; ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Sound judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Solid working knowledge of federal and state employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; ability to quickly learn and use HRIS systems.
  • Commitment to mission-driven work and alignment with Prospera’s core values.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 


Education & Experience Required

  • Associate’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field.
  • At least three years of human resources experience preferred.
  • Minimum two years of experience in recruitment and employee relations preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% within Prospera’s service area.
  • HR Certification (e.g., SHRM-CP or PHR) a plus.
  • Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License required.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. 
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
  • The mental work demands regular attendance, working well with others, verbal contact with others, noise, and occasional travel by conventional means, including motor vehicles and the like, within Prospera’s region and other locations as required.
