Division and Program Overview:
The Public Health Services Department of RiverStone Health exists to improve the life, health, and safety of Yellowstone County residents at the population level. Services include the prevention of poor health outcomes and health behaviors through assessment, health education, direct clinical and case management services, community partnerships, policy, systems, and environmental health strategies.
Job Summary:
The Public Health Accreditation and Innovation Specialist is a public health expert responsible for maintaining RiverStone Health’s national public health accreditation status while leading and facilitating improvement teams and projects in Public Health Services.
Essential Functions/Major Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Organizational Innovation Specialist Services 95%
Facilitate the desired organizational culture in all aspects of duties and responsibilities.
Support and model behaviors consistent with the mission and philosophy of RiverStone Health.
Establish and maintain trusting and collaborate relationships with all levels of public health and organizational innovation leadership and staff.
Maintain strict confidentiality with sensitive information and materials.
Present information to large and small groups of diverse individuals in an objective, honest and non-judgmental manner; delivering communications with clarity and impact.
Lead and facilitate process improvement teams and direct timely completion of projects that support critical goals and customer satisfaction requirements.
Serve as the point of contact for specific project initiatives and best practices.
Responsible for all aspects of project management including planning and executing projects that meet cost, resource, and outcome expectations.
Accountable for RiverStone Health organizational innovation project results and transfer of completed projects to Process Owners.
Facilitate all aspects of meetings including complex scheduling, agenda setting, assigning follow-up, and promoting accountability with team members to move project forward.
Train, mentor, coach, and challenge public health staff in the use of organizational innovation statistical tools, approaches, and techniques to create optimized process management and measurement systems.
Facilitate White Belt and Yellow Belt, or equivalent training sessions for public health employees. Communicate the vision of RiverStone Health Organizational Innovation and the linkage to RiverStone Health’s organizational culture and strategic goals and objectives.
Assure projects are vetted to align with RiverStone Health’s organizational culture, strategic goals and priorities, the needs of our customers, and staff and are fiscally sustainable.
Assist Public Health leadership team in identifying and prioritizing opportunities to improve quality of care, patient safety, best service, customer/patient satisfaction, increase net income, enhance productivity, reduce waste and variation and further employee performance throughout the organization. Identify and communicate progress, issues and barriers at all levels.
Mentor, teach, coach, and transfer knowledge. Continually discover new application opportunities, identify business opportunities with other organizations, influence and promote the use of the organizational innovation program and tools.
Identify needs and set goals for personal growth and development; meet all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements.
Maintain competence in all organizational, departmental and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance.
Provide leadership in emergency response situations. Actively participate in emergency response training and events.
Lead efforts on behalf of RiverStone Health to comply with national public health accreditation standards and excellence.
Non-Essential Functions/Other duties as assigned 5%
Perform other duties as assigned in support of RiverStone Health’s mission and goals.
Education and Experience:
Minimum Qualifications
Associates degree in healthcare, public or community health, or related field
3 years of grant writing experience
5 years experience in public health
Two (2) years of professional experience in project management, conflict management, and/or utilizing quality improvement or organizational innovation tools.
One year of leadership and mentoring experience
Experience in meeting facilitation and group dynamics.
Any combination of experience and training which provide the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with underserved population
- Master’s degree in related field
- Experience working with community health workers, care managers, peer specialists, navigators, and/or related professions.
- Current certification as a Yellow Belt, Green Belt, Black Belt or project manager.
Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Yellow Belt or other relevant quality improvement certification within 12 months
- If applicable will obtain
- Green Belt certification within 24 months and/or
- Project management certification within 24 months

- Skilled in quantitative reasoning; comfortable with math concepts; ability to use Excel, Visio, and Minitab or comparable statistical tools, ability to understand and draw conclusions from raw statistical data and calculate & track financial impact of projects.

- Skilled in application of innovation and exploration of non-traditional ideas in solving difficult business problems.
- Able to quickly learn basic functions of a variety of electronic medical records.

Lead worker authority as needed and oversees work for assigned projects
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Work in office and community settings including outdoors and at community events.
Regular schedule requires some nights and weekend for events.
Standing, bending, sitting, lifting required.
Create and maintain a safe/secure working environment by adhering to safety, security, and health requirements. Integrates injury, illness, and loss prevention into job activities by attending any necessary training and implementing best practices.
Up to 30% of travel time required for educational presentations and/or training. This includes overnight stays, by vehicle and plane. Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, other vehicles, etc. Travel occurs in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.

The work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Senior Director of Community Health and Safety, and considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.
