Director of the Career Center
Reports to: Assistant Headmaster for Advancement & Alumni

Position Summary
The Director of the Career Center will lead strategic planning, outreach, and daily operations. The Director will work with alumni seeking assistance to understand individual objectives, offer career guidance, and assist them through each phase of the career placement process. The Director will further establish and cultivate relationships with alumni seeking to fill positions, companies and recruiters to maintain an inventory of potential open internships and full-time employment positions. The Director will host events where recruiters can discuss staffing needs, meet candidates, and/or provide job market trends and skill shortages. Alumni engagement metrics, number and quality of placements, and depth of employer relationships will measure success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Support alumni seeking career advice, discuss career aspirations, review resumes, cover letters, social media profiles such as LinkedIn, conduct mock interviews, and provide feedback.
- Advise on job search strategies, resume preparation, salary negotiation, and career transitions.
- Collaborate with the Career Networking and Mentorship Committee of the Alumni Association Board to leverage alumni professional connections, expertise, and resources.
- Oversee the DelEX program for rising seniors, guiding the DelEX Moderator.
- Collaborate with the Delbarton Externship (DelEX) team to identify potential hiring managers or identify hosts as potential career mentors to alumni.
- Host recruiters (both on and off campus) to discuss their companies’ staffing needs and utilize these sessions as a “meet and greet,” serving as an informal job fair for alumni seeking internship or full-time employment opportunities.
- Maintain accurate alumni career data collaboratively with the Advancement & Alumni Office to share information about alumni who are contributing to the career advancement of our alumni and those alumni who are benefiting from the Career Center.
- Develop, distribute, analyze and report survey results from job seekers, recruiters and hiring managers.
- Maintain and review data with school administration including Career Center usage, successes, lessons learned, and quantitative and historical data to generate Return on Investment (ROI) reports.
- Establish an initiative to incentivize alumni to report mentorship or career services that are provided to alumni organically but occur outside of the Career Center's scope of services, to capture a more holistic view of the strength of Delbarton’s alumni network.
- Oversee the Alumni Career Networking and Mentorship Program to maintain process and data consistency across career disciplines, industry leaders, and associated programs, e.g., panel discussions, social gatherings, etc.
- Cultivate a “culture of accountability” in which alumni who have benefitted from the Career Center give back to Delbarton through mentorship, internships, career opportunities, or philanthropic support.
- Partner with parents of current students to encourage the creation of internship and employment opportunities for alumni, while clearly communicating that the services and benefits of the Career Center are designed specifically for alumni.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- A deep understanding of and commitment to Delbarton’s Catholic education and the values of Benedictine and Catholic Teaching, with service to Catholic organizations a plus.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Experience in leading organizational mentorship or job placement programs, including defining a formal process to establish cohorts of protégés or candidates and identify and match them to appropriate mentors or hiring managers.
- Experience in higher education, alumni relations, or professional career services, preferably in a religious or independent school environment, is a plus.
- Ability to travel to and/or host alumni events to promote the Career Center and recruit hiring managers is required. Candidates with existing alumni relationships are preferred.
- Experience in integrating data from various unstructured data sources, including social media and Delbarton’s Advancement & Alumni platforms, to develop structured data that facilitates matching those seeking internships or employment opportunities.
- Experience reviewing resumes, cover letters, and social media profiles of candidates and providing appropriate feedback and recommendations.
- Experience in conducting mock interviews, including salary negotiation techniques.
- Track record of placing candidates into internships and full-time positions at various companies.
- Experience in managing employees in a large, complex environment, including the hiring of employees, contractors, or interns, and managing teams.
- Proven ability to create executive-level presentations on the status of mentorship or placement programs.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher required; professional certifications are a plus.
