Job Summary

Provides athletic injury management to prevent, evaluate, treat and rehabilitate student-athletes and related illness during training and at athletic events at schools and event locations within the School District of Philadelphia. Performs functions in coordination with the Director of Sports Medicine.

Essential Functions

· Participates in the planning and implementation of a comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention programs.

· Conducts an initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness to provide emergency or continued care, and to determine whether they should be referred to physicians for definitive diagnosis and treatment.

· Assists with the care and prevention of athletic injuries in the scholastic athletic setting; provides wound care, stitch removal, and dressing changes.

· Applies protective or injury preventative devices such as tape, bandages or braces to body parts such as ankles, fingers, or wrists.

· Cares for athletic injuries using physical therapy techniques and equipment as needed.

· Communicates injury and when necessary, follows up to parent/guardian of injured athlete.

· Evaluates athletes' readiness to play and provide participation clearances when necessary and warranted.

· Assesses and reports the progress of recovering athletes to Coaches, Assistant Directors and Physicians.

· Collaborates with physicians to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries.

· Performs duties in accordance with School District of Philadelphia values, policies, and procedures.

· Travels with athletic teams to be available at sporting events as necessary.
