Position: Inventory Control and Shipping Manager
Reports to: Director of Operations

Inventory Control and Shipping Manager Summary: The Inventory Control and Shipping Manager is responsible for leading, supervising, and training all team members within the Inventory Control Department. This role ensures the efficient and accurate operation of inventory and shipping functions across multiple manufacturing locations and warehouses, including leased off-site facilities. The manager drives continuous improvement in accuracy, efficiency, and cost reduction, while overseeing the receipt and disbursement of both purchased and fabricated parts.
Essential Functions:
- Provides strategic leadership for the Inventory Control Department, overseeing Receiving and Shipping functions. Selects, trains, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure efficient and effective operations.
- Implements departmental metrics and dashboards to monitor performance. Leads continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies such as 80/20, Six Sigma, and root cause analysis to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Applies technology-driven solutions to optimize operations.
- Serves as the subject matter expert for domestic and international freight pricing and negotiations. Selects and schedules carriers to meet cost and delivery goals. Ensures compliance with import/export regulations, coordinates with freight forwarders, and resolves customs and delivery issues. Maintains accurate shipping documentation and up-to-date knowledge of trade compliance and Free Trade Agreements.
- Ensures all departmental policies and procedures are documented, current, communicated, and consistently followed.
- Reviews and approves freight invoices, resolving discrepancies and overcharges.
- Manages the timely receipt and distribution of materials across manufacturing locations. Maintains accurate inventory records and supports material availability throughout the organization.
- Leads 7S initiatives to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Ensures all personnel are trained in the safe operation of material handling equipment.
- Oversees cycle count schedules and investigates discrepancies between system records and physical inventory. Supports periodic physical inventory counts.
- Processes engineering change notices by updating shop orders and managing affected parts and documentation.
- Ensures same-day system receipt of incoming parts and month-end completion of all receiving transactions. Oversees on-time shipment of customer spare parts orders.
- Champions continuous improvement and supports organizational transitions with an open mindset. Leads and participates in improvement events and fosters a culture of innovation.

Inventory Control and Shipping Manager Competencies:
- Working knowledge of an integrated manufacturing system.
- Knowledge of requirements for regulatory compliance with U.S. Customs for import and export.
- Demonstrated ability to assess situations, set priorities, and make sound decisions in a dynamic environment.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- High level of computer literacy; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
- Impactful supervisory and leadership capabilities with strong interpersonal communication and team-building skills.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Inventory Control or Manufacturing, or equivalent experience and training.
- 10+ years of experience in logistics/inventory control.
- Experience working with freight forwarders.

Physical Demands:
- Ability to navigate manufacturing floor environment, which may include walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs, and standing for extended periods.
- Physical movement is required to inspect, touch, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or twist in the capital equipment manufacturing process.
- Capacity to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, ear protection, and hard hat as needed.
- Ability to tolerate exposure to moderate levels of noise, vibration, and varying temperatures in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to move between different areas of the facility including production floor, warehouse, and administrative offices.
- Ability to follow health and safety guidelines and protocols including emergency procedures.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and routine office equipment.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
- Moderate lifting may be required up to 50 pounds..
- Capacity to use standard office equipment such as computer, telephone, and videoconferencing.
- Regular, predictable attendance is required.
